Meet a fun possum!!

idealisticrebel

Hello, all. It’s me again, Barbara’s Sister. Barbara is under the weather today (well, not literally; I mean, it’s not like there’s this big snowdrift on top of her, or anything). She’ll be back with you soon, but since she’s tired and her sinuses have her brain under siege, I took over her keyboard so I can tell you a story.

One day, when we were living in our old house, where the trash cans were kept (neatly, behind a custom-built wall) by the side door of the house, I went to throw out the kitchen garbage one morning, and found myself face-to-face with a possum.

I realize not all of you are from the northern United States, so let me introduce to a possum:

Not a rodent, by the way, the only North American marsupial, and kind of cute, don’t you think?  Except, of course, that I’m from…

International Women’s Day – March 8th, 2014

Excellent post!!

The Why About This

By pedrojperez2

Depending on where you live in the world it is already International Women’s Day. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this celebration, allow me to share some information about this day.

While there have been various Women’s Day Celebrations in different parts of the world historically, it was in 1977 that the U.N. (United Nations) invited members to proclaim March 8th as the U.N. day for Women’s Rights and World Peace. Many countries now actively celebrate this day.

For both men and women this is an important day to note. We humans, of this planet Earth, cannot move forward without all of us working towards a goal of harmony, peace and growth for ourselves and  our planet.

International Women’s Day is about encouraging the freedom and rights all women are entitled to and deserve.

WATCH: Fisherman catches eagle with lure, helps dry it out before release

That’s a heart!!!

Global News

Some fishermen off the west coast of Vancouver Island got quite a shock when they reeled in their lines during a fishing expedition.

A video, posted to YouTube, shows fishermen casting lines off a boat when one of the lines suddenly snags a bald eagle.

Commercial fisherman Randy Sadler told Global News the video was actually taken in 2012, but his wife had to help him upload it to the Internet months later.

Sadler is an inventor of the Kitetail Flasher and was using that to fish off his boat during the encounter.

Suddenly he felt one of the lines drag out the back of the boat. He got the shock of his life when he saw an eagle sitting in the water looking at him.

“It had actually grabbed the Kitetail Flasher in its feet,” said Sadler. “It must have thought it was a rock cod, that’s all I…

“International Women’s Day” …. 2014 …. Google Doodle!

~~March 7, 2014~~

International Women’s Day 2014: Google Doodle compiles celebratory video

Google has marked International Women’s Day with an animated Doodle celebrating women from across the world.

International Women’s Day 2014 has the theme ‘inspiring change’ and celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women, while focusing world attention on areas that still need further action.

Google’s Doodle marks the day by showing over 100 women from all corners of the globe in a 80 second video. Some of the women featured include prominent figures such as Malala Yousafzai and – bizarrely – children’s character Dora the Explorer, who all say “happy International Women’s Day” in various languages.

Happy International Women’s Day 2014 – Google Doodle Video w/ music

Published on Mar 7, 2014

On 8 March 2014, Google Doodle celebrates the International Women’s Day with a short doodle video.

International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year. This is a day which some people celebrate by wearing purple ribbons.

The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2014 is “Equality for Women is Progress for All”.

International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political, and social achievements.

Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily in Europe, including Russia. In some regions, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day.

In other regions, however, the political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. This is a day which some people celebrate by wearing purple ribbons.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2014 – celebrated on March 8 around the world – UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka stresses that “progress for women is progress for all.” Celebrating progress already made for women’s rights, women’s empowerment and gender equality, she further urged women, men, youth, and leaders of nations, communities, religion and commerce to recommit to making gender equality a global reality.

~~Being a woman today means~~

…balancing choice with obligation.

…the world is yours … if you’re bold enough to take it.

… Not expecting a thank you. You do something because either it’s expected of you, ’cause no one else will, or you just want to.

… the sky is the limit. I can walk on the moon (if they ever send anybody there again), run for president, become one of the richest people on earth – whatever the imagination conjures up is within our grasp…except of course – equal pay.

… working in a man’s world, while still living in a woman’s world

… having to establish that you DO have a brain and you CAN work a camera with the best of them, even if you are wearing high-heeled boots.

Being a woman sometimes means having the responsibility without the authority.

Being a woman today means going beyond what your mother thought was possible.

… feeling confident that I can do anything, be anything — until some guy exerts his male privilege when I least expect it.

… tirelessly juggling multiple jobs to serve many constituencies — family, employees, clients, community — with as much energy, love and grace as one can muster.

I’d love to hear what you have to say, so please finish the sentence:

Being a woman today means….

“Being a Light in the World” … Blog Award!!

~~March 7, 2014~~

A known blogger and dear friend Barbara from http://idealisticrebel.wordpress.com/ nominated “It Is What It Is” for the “Being a Light in the World” Blog Award!!

She created this award on March 4, 2014.

~~IN HER OWN WORDS~~

“I’m creating this Award to celebrate all those wonderful people in the World who spread Light, and Love and Hope and Peace in the name of All.  These bloggers should consistently promote these qualities and work to be a force for peace and light in the world.

~~The Rules~~

Thank the person who gives you the award

Spread this award around to the people who you know who are doing this work, so that the work continues and the light is spread

Let your nominees know

Never give up on your fellow human beings”

Light3

Before I continue on to list my nominees,  it’s an honor to humbly accept this award. To me, this award carries much value because it was created by my dear friend and also because of the meaning behind it.

Being a “light in this world” of ours brings a lot of responsibilities. There are many “forces” out there trying to extinguish the LIGHT … as they have done before. We must arduously work to continue to shine this light. First and foremost, keep the light alive within to be able to take it outside.

We are ALL in this together!!

Powerful video …. needs to stand on its own!!

~~March 7, 2014~~

As I frequently do, I was surfing the net looking for pictures, graphics and videos for a post. I found this video depicting so much of what women experience that is so powerful that it needs to stand alone to do it justice.

Here it is.
