Let’s Talk About Facebook, Shall We?

Making very good points!! … from the “Queen” of Facebook … LOL!! 60 some year old grandma!!

Oh for the love of...me

I’ll admit it…I’m a defender of Facebook. I like it. I like seeing pictures of my grandkids and keeping up with what is going on with them. I like keeping up on the lives of my friends and what their grandchildren are doing. I like the positive news items and the helpful way it reaches out to millions of people at a moments notice. I like finding friends from way back when and touching base again…not enough to actually make an effort to get together or anything but I’m nosy…I like knowing what’s going on in the world.

But I’m finding there’s no real “etiquette” when it comes to Facebook. It’s kind of anonymous…but not really. We’re not face to face so you don’t have to see my initial reaction to your post and I have time to think about how I’m going to (or not going to respond). Kind…

A Love Letter To Fred Phelps….

Maybe this is the best way to “judge” Mr. Phelps ……

The Boeskool

Dear Mr. Phelps,

You don’t know me, but I’ve heard of you.  Last year when I went to the Final Four, I heard that some Westboro Baptist folks would be protesting there, and I thought about making a sign that said, “THESE PEOPLE DO NOT REPRESENT JESUS.” I’m so glad I didn’t waste my time on a sign. When I finally saw the protestors and heard their silly songs, it all just seemed comically sad. There is no way any thinking person could mistake that spectacle for anything that had to do with Jesus. I’m way more worried about the people calling themselves Christians who are trying to keep their hatred a secret….  At least your hatred was overt enough that everyone knew you were full of shit.

They say "Live your life in such a way that the Westboro Baptist Church will want to picket your funeral." Man.... How cool would that be? It’s hard to see them back there because you’re probably focusing on that amazing mustache, but those are some WBCers in the background…

10 Reasons Why I Will Continue to Give my Children Handheld Devices

From a mother’s perspective. What say you???

Chop Wood, Carry Water

Image My children, both on handheld devices, learning and laughing.

Last week the Huffington Post ran this article titled 10 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should be Banned for Children Under the Age of 12.

As an educator who advocates for the intentional and appropriate use of technology, I could go on about this forever. But instead I’m writing here as a mother.

Here are my 10 reasons why I will continue giving my children handheld devices, and all other forms of technology as well.

1) Because banning things never, ever, ever works.

Remember when your parents wouldn’t let you watch rated R movies so you just went to your friends’ houses to watch them? I think I’d rather have my kids using technology and handheld devices with me beside them. Where I can engage with them, answer questions, and limit content if I have concerns.

2) Problem solving.

When my kids…

Today in Beatles history …. milestone!!

~~March 22, 2014~~

Debut album Please, Please me turns 50!!

Please Please Me, the debut album from The Beatles, was released 50 years ago today — March 22, 1963.

From the Beatles site: “Please Please Me was done in a day – we started at 10 o’clock in the morning, finished at 11 at night, and that was the record made” recalled producer Sir George Martin.

Ten of the album’s fourteen tracks were recorded on the 11th February, 1963 – performance favorites and “Lennon-McCartney originals”. In addition to “Love Me Do”, the B-side of their debut single and both sides of their second single made up the remaining tracks.

The iconic front cover shot was taken at the then headquarters of EMI Limited at 20 Manchester Square in London’s West End in early 1963 by Angus McBean.

Please Please Me hit Number One in the chart in May 1963 and remained there for thirty weeks before being replaced by With The Beatles.

According to NME, March 8th 1963: “Things are beginning to move for the Beatles, the r-and-b styled British group. The disc Please Please Me follows closely on the heels of their first hit Love Me Do written by group members John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It looks like a bright future for the Beatles, but knowing them I don’t think they’ll let it go to their heads.”

“Please Please Me“, the debut album by the Beatles was released on 22 March 1963.

Of the album’s fourteen songs, eight were written by Lennon–McCartney (originally credited “McCartney–Lennon”), early evidence of what Rolling Stone later called “their invention of the idea of the self-contained rock band, writing their own hits and playing their own instruments”. In 2012, “Please Please Me” was voted 39th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

As recalled by George Martin “Please Please Me was done in a day – we started at 10 o’clock in the morning finished at 11 at night, and that was the record made.”

Internet Detox… almost cold turkey

I know the feeling …..

Mavadelo's mindscape

Yes dear followers, I am suffering from a severe case of internet detox. Due to being uh…. gullible i guess, I got a debt with them that I couldn’t pay straight away and my ISP decided to partially disconnect me from their services meaning that I can’t call, go online or watch digital television but I can receive calls and watch “analog” channels.

I said almost cold turkey because luckily I have some friends that kindly let me use their system for some checking and small updates and such.

I never realized that internet could be a necessity but I can tell you that seems to be the case, I can tell by the fact that I keep switching on my browser every time I need to find something out or have seen something on the news. Just following it up with a sigh and the realisation that this is…
