To start the day …. when I’m 64!!

Several moons ago, I arrived on this planet through the grace of my parents, Hortensia Rexach and Jose F. Rexach. They had me in their 40s. They raised me to be the best that I could be. They gave me all that I needed to be happy, educated, successful, integrated, complete and realized.

Thanks to them I’m here to celebrate another year in my life. 

I remember when The Beatles burst into the music scene and slowly became worldwide known. As their career grew and eventually changed, so did the style of their songs. They grew with the times … the 60s and 70s. 

I remember so clear when this song came out … I knew the lyrics and wondered how it would feel “when I’m 64”!

“When I’m Sixty-Four” is a song by the Beatles, written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon–McCartney) and released in 1967 on their album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

~~Composition~~

The song is sung by a young man to his lover, and is about his plans of growing old together with her. Although the theme is ageing, it was one of the first songs McCartney wrote, when he was only 16. It was on the Beatles playlist in their early days as a song to perform when the amplifiers broke down or the electricity went off. Both George Martin and Mark Lewisohn speculated that McCartney may have thought of the song when recording began for Sgt. Pepper in December 1966 because his father turned 64 earlier that year.

Lennon said of the song, “Paul wrote it in the Cavern days. We just stuck a few more words on it like ‘grandchildren on your knee’ and ‘Vera, Chuck and Dave’ … this was just one that was quite a hit with us.” In his 1980 interview for Playboy he said, “I would never even dream of writing a song like that.”

Title: When I’m Sixty-Four – Recording began Dec 6,1966 with two takes of the rhythm track.On Dec 8 Paul overdubbed his vocal onto take 2.On Dec 20 Paul,George and John added Backing vocals with Ringo adding the bell sounds.The clarinets were overdubbed the following day on the 21st.
