Sure hope this is approved … it’s about time!!
Today the International Olympic Committee (IOC) unanimously voted in favor of adopting “Proposal 14” of the Olympic Agenda 2020. This vote will add non-discrimination language regarding sexual orientation in Principle 6 of the Olympic Charter. The vote took a positive step forward in promoting equality in the Olympic games. In September, the IOC announced that they would add an anti-discrimination clause to host cities’ contracts.
“There is no greater sign of progress in combating homophobia in sports than to have the oldest organized athletic competition in the history of the world saying enough is enough,” Hudson Taylor, executive director of gay rights group Athlete Ally, said in a statement regarding the vote.
In April 2014 the Council for Global Equality sent a letter to IOC President, Thomas Bach, asking that four areas be addressed:
