“Donald Trump will never be president of the United States. But he is rapidly becoming our national therapist … a deep mirror into the American psyche … where angels and demons, and hidden resentments, have been festering for many years.”
Donald Trump is the perfect representative of the “Ugly American” …. this seems to be the lowest of the low! I’m sure more will follow!!

The U.S. presidential campaign is turning bizarre.
Earlier this week, Rev. Al Sharpton declared that “people that were from Puerto Rico all would have to go back if their parents were undocumented.” In other words, Sharpton believes that Puerto Ricans are not inherently U.S. citizens.
Then in New York City, while speaking to a group of investment bankers and hedge fund owners, Donald Trump declared that if elected, he will revoke the U.S. citizenship of all Puerto Ricans because they are “not part of the American race.”
Here are two reports about this speech:
If these sources are accurate, then Trump is saying that Puerto Ricans can be drafted to die in America’s wars.
They can sew dresses in the garment district for 50 years, for less than minimum wage.
They can pay 20% to 50% more for U.S. products, that are shoved down…

Hey DT jerk, there is no American race. Never has been. America is an idea not a race of people. .

Are you sure, Carl? Not even a North American race? Not even an American cross-country race?

I don’t know that Al Sharpton was wrong (if that’s what you meant) – he had to have been referencing Trump’s Puerto Rican plan, getting wind of it before Trump announced such a thing in a public speech.
Still, to be unbiased, we must clarify something. Puerto Ricans are not to be singled-out for low wages. Trump wants a lower minimum wage for everyone:

The point is that this Rev was raised in New York city .. he’s surrounded by millions of Puerto Ricans … he should know better. He’s spreading incorrect info to Americans that don’t know about the relationship/history between PR & the USA.
And Trump isn’t helping any …. 😦

Their has been a lot of inaccurate stories about Trump the Chump. Some of them are simply satire, that because of the language barrier, are being misinterpreted as “truths”, eg “Trump to buy Puerto Rico”, “Puerto Ricans are the worse Mexicans”, etc. Let’s judge him on his record, which is enough to consider him a fool and out of touch with the American people, which by the way, includes Puerto Ricans.

Trump is catering to the anger of 25% of Americans being fearful of immigrants. This is not new. Our U.S. history is full of examples of this including politicians taking advantage. There are those who blame the other (illegal immigrants for lack of jobs and stagnant wages) instead of greedy companies paying CEO’s more than 300 x the average worker’s pay and the stock market until recently, going through the roof because companies are making record profits partly by keeping down labor costs.
His rhetoric is divisive and those republicans following his lead will pay the price in the general election. For a republican to win the presidential election, the candidate has to earn about 45% of the Hispanic vote. Romney won 27%. At this rate a republican will never win the White House. Even for those candidates not resorting to his rhetoric, the democrats can paint the picture that he is leading a party that is anti immigration at all costs.

Agree!! The point here, for me, is that he ‘s including Puerto Ricans a immgrants and undocumented at that! And this it totally historically untrue!!! American citizenship was “imposed” on Puerto Ricans in 1917 …. after this, they were and continue to called to serve in all the wars that the US gets involved with … and this is just one of the many points that Americans have wrong about Puerto Ricans!
Sorry about this rant … but this got to me since I learned about this comment yesterday!! 😦

Exactly Dr. Rex! It’s amazing how many people talk about Puerto Ricans as “foreigners” when they’ve been incorporated into the US empire for so incredibly long!

This is a topic very close to my heart. I was born in 1950, in 1952 PR became a commonwealth. All I’ve known is the presence of the USA in my life. Puerto Ricans received American citizenship in 1917 … shortly after that Puerto Ricans were called to the military & have participated in all American wars. Imagine that ….

Thank you so much for sharing this Dr. Rex! I had no idea you were born in Puerto Rico, and I can certainly see why this is very important to you.

It is truly criminal what the US has done and continues to do. Will bail out banks but not help out occupied Puerto Rico.. Shame!

You are so right! I would recommend this book to you: “War Against All Puerto Ricans” …. Bestseller in Amazon for several months. I learned a lot about the story of PR in the book. Masterly written …. There’s also a blog … will send link in a bit.

Here it is ….. there are several tabs that will resume parts of the book. The “blog” tab is usually updated 2X/day … It’s very interesting.

In the book “Overthrow: America’s history of regime change from Hawaii to Iraq”, there is an entire chapter about the invasion and colonization of Puerto Rico. However, I felt the author, Stephen Kinzer, went too easy on the U.S. regime imposed on the people there. Or maybe I’m too harsh on the author? I mean, the way he told it it was as if the people of P.R. would probably choose to continue on as a “protectorate” of the U.S. His premise seems to be that it has its benefits, though I find that difficult to believe considering how Washington has made the conscious decision to let them default on their debt, something it would hardly allow one of its own states to do.

Your evaluation about the author’s opinion on PR seems correct to me. There’s no way Puerto Ricans have any option. The USA has managed to oppress & keep PR under their thumb. PR has no option to choose. It’s never been an option. Even if there was a “real” plebiscite, the final decision is up to Congress.
Ever done I read the “War” book, I wanted to find another book which explains similarities in Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and other territories. I’m almost sure they’d be similar to the “War” book.
As I read it, I thought …. this is what is happening in the Middle East … including torture, water boarding, medical stuff, files, etc. They practiced in PR!!
I hope I’m making sense here.

You’re making perfect sense! The same horrendous thing the US empire does in southwest Asia currently and Southeast Asia previously began with atrocities in the Western Hemisphere, in what the US likes to claim as its own back yard.

As a matter of fact, PR receives about $4 billions in help: food coupons, Pell grants, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. However, the get back $74 billions via taxes & other revenues. Search maybe: who depends on whom …. I posted a graph about this. Will try to find it …. I’m on cell phone now.

Horty, I didn’t hear about that comment until I just read this post of yours. This guy is really nuts, but in a smart way. He is attracting lots of people who like what he says, even if he’s blowing hot air. The other guys and gal who are running on the GOP side, have been side swiped. He was an unknown – an enigma. Now, they can see what he is, and are in the midst of mapping out strategies to try to get rid of him. He will not go away so easily. In the meantime, the others are not getting the turnouts they had hoped and are doing poorly in the polls. Of course, it’s so early, and many things will surely change. What a mess, so far.

Hi and I Agree. Donald Trump doesn’t want to see the reality or his head is stuck where the sun don’t shine. We are all equal here in America, we work for our wages, we suffer just like anyone else in the world. The sun shines for everyone, sorry to hear Donald Trump and Al Sharpton don’t agree. But hey their legacy doesn’t last forever..
