In a famous Saturday Night Live skit, actor Chris Walken plays a demented record producer. He keeps running out of the control booth to yell at his hapless band, “I got a fever! And the only cure is…more cowbell!”

U.S. politicians have developed their own brand of lunacy. It’s called, “I got a fever! And the only cure is…more Puerto Rico!”

Over the past week alone, three national politicians swept through the island.

Hillary and Marco Rubio visited on the same day (Friday Sept. 4). Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited on Labor Day, Sept. 7.  All of them stayed just one day, then trampolined back to the U.S.

Their agenda was clearly political.

No policy gets accomplished or even discussed during a three-hour photo op, while your private plane re-fuels for the return trip.

There was also a money incentive.

I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I was born in Santurce and raised in Rio Piedras. Have lived in Florida since 1999. I have a doctorate degree in Medicine; completed in 1976. My Internal Medicine specialty was completed in 1979. Worked for Puerto Rico's health system until 1985. At this time, I'm happily retired after working for the federal government for almost 28yrs. I'm interested in news reporting human issues like injustice, discrimination and abuse - the "wrongly" affected.
