Something to keep track of … Keeping an eye on this situation very closely.
In August 2009, when Sonia Sotomayor became the “first Hispanic member” of the US Supreme Court, it was hailed as a Hispanic milestone.
Sonia basked in the admiration of family, friends, Pres. Obama and Joe Biden.
The following year, Citizens United v. FEC turned the US government into an auction house.
This year, Puerto Rico is about to go bankrupt – but it cannot declare bankruptcy, because the US Congress refuses to allow it.
If this bankruptcy mess appears before her Court, Sotomayor will need to be more vocal and persuasive than in the Citizens United fiasco.
A Hispanic “first,” who can’t do anything for other Hispanics, is a very sad thing to see.
