Phil Thompson continues to gain recognition as an internationally acclaimed pop pianist and vocalist – creating both original songs and unique arrangements of adult contemporary hits.

Story behind the song

The first thing I did after hearing this song on the radio was pull it up on YouTube and listen to it again (and again and again!) – probably over a dozen times to be honest. The melody, lyrics, everything about this song fit perfectly together.

The second thing I did was run to a piano and sound out the chords for the song! The more I started playing this song I started hearing the orchestral arrangement in my head and I knew I wanted to record that version.

I called my friend Josh Misner (violin) who recommending doing the song as a trio Cory Grossman (cello) who ended up being truly instrumental (bad bun!) with orchestrating this song and taking the lead on some of the opening lower melody lines – it really was a team effort.

About the location

One of the first weddings I ever played for was a friend of mine at The Great Hall in Saint Paul but I never would have imagined shooting a music video like this at the same spot almost 10 years later!

It was really special coming back to one of the earliest spots I started my career as a professional musician and I’m really happy with how everything came together.
