On his own web site this week, Ruben Blades wrote the painful truth…that there is a widespread suppression of Latino artists, and Latino voices in America.

The message of Ruben is clear…that in film, television, publishing and broadcasting, Latino stories never see the light of day.
Since the stories are suppressed, we constantly see perverted stereotypes: the drug dealer, gang member, maid, gardener, juvenile delinquent…but rarely any three-dimensional, deeply-rooted characters, who enlighten and inspire us in the manner of Atticus Finch, Erin Brockovich, Dr. Huxtable, Rocky Balboa, or even Gabe Kotter.
65 years ago, Ralph Ellison wrote Invisible Man. This cruel level of invisibility, is precisely where Latinos are today.
