Bernie Sanders evokes memories of Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

On December 10, 2008, Sanders filibustered the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% of America. The speech lasted nearly nine hours and became legendary – known simply as “The Speech.” And now Sanders delivered again…as the only presidential candidate whose website offers a specific plan for Puerto Rico. Here it is:

The plan contains recommendations for clean energy, single payer Medicare plans, Chapter 9 bankruptcy access, Vieques cleanup, and free public college.

As the only candidate who dedicated a page of his web site to Puerto Rico, Bernie Sanders is already way ahead of all the others. But there is one area where his platform could be sharpened… Jones Act reform for Puerto Rico.

I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I was born in Santurce and raised in Rio Piedras. Have lived in Florida since 1999. I have a doctorate degree in Medicine; completed in 1976. My Internal Medicine specialty was completed in 1979. Worked for Puerto Rico's health system until 1985. At this time, I'm happily retired after working for the federal government for almost 28yrs.
