Laurie Hernandez is the youngest member of the US women’s gymnastic team. Just 16 years old, she has already starred in the US National Championships, won the 2015 U.S. Classic…and now, in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Laurie is a member of the “Final Five,” an extremely gifted team that includes Simone Biles and Aly Raisman. Some of her tumbling runs are absolutely death-defying, such as this one:
Her balance beam work is equally spectacular:
Calm yet confident, Laurie’s success is firmly rooted in her work ethic. For several years, she has trained five to six hours a day, six days a week. Along the way she has overcome a dislocated knee, a torn patella ligament, a bruised MCL, and surgery on her right knee.
At 16 years of age, Laurie has paid her dues.
