Puerto Rico has a new superhero. Her name is La Borinqueña.
The brainchild of Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, and personified by attorney/activist Stephanie Martin Llanes, La Borinqueña is a new comic book series that will launch in December 2016. But the series has already drawn media attention…including NBC News, the Washington Post, New York Times, New York Daily News, Vibe, and Fox News Latino.
La Borinqueña can fly.
She has powers over the wind and the sea. She is also dedicated to protecting Puerto Rico, from anyone who would abuse her.
As a superhero (or super heroine) it will be fascinating to see how La Borinqueña deals with the Financial Control Board, John Paulson, Nicholas Prouty, toxic sludge oil at PREPA, solid waste incinerators in Arecibo, Monsanto seed programs, the Martin Peña Channel, the Zika virus, drug dealers, crooked cops, corrupt politicians…
