Neoliberal Austerity Is Destroying This Puerto Rican Zoo

Noooo!! This is where I lived! I know this zoo … my heart aches! 💔

Repeating Islands

A report from TeleSur.

Severely understaffed and underfunded, the Dr. Juan A. Rivero Zoo in Mayaguez is hanging by a string.

Puerto Ricans aren’t the only ones feeling the bite of the island’s ongoing economic crisis, with animals in one of its largest zoos struggling to survive.

Severely understaffed and underfunded, the Dr. Juan A. Rivero Zoo in Mayaguez is hanging by a string. The 45-acre zoo has been issued dozens of violations from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, citing deteriorating exhibits and poor conditions.

“It makes you want to cry,” animal rights activist Susan Soltero told the Associated Press.

“This is unacceptable to me as a human being.”

Among the citations listed are animals living in confined spaces, limited working fans for deer and camels, expired food and medicines and a tiger that was underweight and had gone without a medical exam or lab test for…

Puerto Rico leases out historic buildings as they fall into despair

My heart aches … the crumbling of Puerto Rico, my country, is evident and progressive! 🇵🇷

Repeating Islands

A report from Global Property Guide.

The Puerto Rico government is leasing out several historic buildings, many of them at least 5 centuries old – to individuals and non-profit groups. These buildings are falling into despair due to lack of maintenance and upkeep.

A private university has leased one such historic building that once was home to an iconic movie theatre in Old San Juan.

There are nearly 40 buildings in the metropolitan area in serious need of conservation and repairs, experts say. Most of these buildings are located in Puerto Rico’s capital Old San Juan, founded in 1521. Features such as blue cobblestone streets, colorful homes and expansive ocean views make this old historic city a hot destination for tourists from all over the world.
The move has drawn ire of conservation activists who said that the government was citing funds crunch as the reason for selling and…

A Blast from The Past …. “GOP Health Care Plan: Don’t Get Sick …. And if You Do Get Sick, Die Quickly ….. “!!

~~July 18, 2017~~

If you don’t know what has happened in the last couple of days related to the health care issue discussed in secret meetings, without hearings and the usual procedures, you have been hiding under a rock.

Bottom line, the Senate didn’t have the votes to pass “TrumpCare“.

The new idea, coming from Turtle McConnell and tweeted by this ‘so called president’ is REPEAL NOW, REPLACE LATER.

McConnell’s brilliant idea:

repeal Obamacare now with a two year delay to provide for a stable transition period.

I had a ‘blast from the past‘ thought and remembers Alan Grayson, former Democratic Representative for the 8th congressional district of Florida.

Take a trip through memory lane … in 8 years, nothing has changed!
