πŸ‡΅πŸ‡· Puerto Rico …. 8 Atrocities Committed Against Puerto Rico by the US πŸ‡΅πŸ‡· …. I didn’t know about ALL of these!!

In view of what is happening in my country, Puerto Rico, after Hurricane MarΓa practically flattened it and adding to it the response of the American government, owner and master of Puerto Rico …. I would like to reblog this post which I worked on two years ago.
These are historical facts … this is the way the mighty, imperialistic U.S. of A. has treated its ‘colony’ since it took ‘possession’ in 1898.

It Is What It Is

The information included below is something that I knew a bit about. Puerto Rico became a commonwealth of the USA in 1952. I was two years old at the time.

As I grew up, all I knew was how benevolent the USA had been with my country. The presence of the US permeates Puerto Rican daily life, its culture, its way of all more than 100%.

I can understand how I thought so highly about the USA that one of my goals was to live here. I have attained that goal. I doubt that I will ever go back to live in the Puerto Rico of today … the Puerto Rico β€œmolded” by the β€œmighty” USA.

For many reasons, Puerto Ricans have lost what really make us a country. The β€œbenevolent benefactor” has a very dark side to it.

As I grew up, I remember…

  1. Horty, I just read your 2015 piece….Excellent, thorough article on the 8 atrocities. Some of this I knew, but as with most Americans, I knew far from all of it. I am appalled & ashamed of my country! Puerto Rico must, in the shadow of the storms, move toward independence once & for all!!! First, the recovery…unless you think Puerto Rico can better recover through independence. Phil

    • Hi!! Thx so much for these words. They mean a lot to me. I think that Puerto Rico was weakened before by years of corrupt local government, the debt, the PROMESA bill or La Junta (as they call it) and now by two hurricanes back to back.
I see my country is on its knees and the US is actually pushing on it to keep it down.
I never thought that I would ever be a proponent for independence. I grew up American all the way! When I was younger I’d say that if PR ever became independent, I’d be on the 1st plane out. When I moved to FL in 1999, I said I would never go back to Puerto Rico to live … and I stood by those words until I started paying attention to American politics, most closely now, less during Obama. About 2 1/2 years ago, I read the book “War Against All Puerto Ricans” and my world took a tumble and a 180 degree turn.
This event with Maria, the current presidency and the American government’s response to the Puerto Rican crisis have totally changed me.
Now, I wish I was younger, I’d move back in a flask and I’d be the first one in the line to fight for independence. Enough is enough … I encourage you, if you have time, to read the “War” book and to watch this documentary …. http://thelastcolony.com/

My heart aches, my soul is sore, my spirit right now is broken. But I have the Boricua spirit. I WILL go back .., don’t know when, don’t know how … I will go back. And when it’s my time to die, I will die in my country … not in the oppressor’s country.
I can’t even believe that I’m putting these thoughts into words.
Thank you, dear friend …. hugs!! ❀ … Horty!!
