Just When You Think It Can’t Get Any Worse…

‘Just When You Think It Can’t Get Any Worse’ …. exactly correct!! How did I miss this? I found it and I’m sharing … because ALL need to know!!

By Hook Or By Book

Okay. This was a day filled with drama and chaos even by Trumponian standards. It began at sunrise as in a rather incoherent tweet, Mr. Trump questioned his own administration’s support for a controversial bill (FISA) to reauthorize the government’s ability to conduct foreign surveillance in the U.S. Mass confusion broke out among lawmakers for about an hour and a half, but after a second backpedaling tweet, the bill was approved. Then, came the confusion over whether or not a tentative agreement had been reached concerning DACA. And now the day ends with some absolutely vile comments Mr. Trump came out with during a meeting with Republicans and Democrats to discuss this possible bipartisan immigration deal. For my friends who don’t live in the U.S., DACA is a program issued under President Obama by executive order. It protects immigrants who were brought to this country illegally as children. Several months…

One Haitian Immigrant Realising His American Dream.

My heart aches …
‘I woke up this morning and found my face all over Facebook and with it myriad of amazing comments about my accomplishments. I am humbled and shocked at the same time. Thank you for giving me a shot at the American Dream and may God bless America, the greatest country on earth.’

By Hook Or By Book

In May of 2016, this heart-stopping photo of a young 2nd Lieutenant graduating from West Point went viral. Due to the events of yesterday, it’s making the rounds again, so I thought I’d share his inspirational story.

Alix Idrache was brought to the U.S. by his father Dieujuste, who had dropped out of school at the age of 14 to find work. Dieujuste migrated to America, wanting his children to have the opportunities he didn’t have. In 2009, he was able to bring Alix over as well. In seven short years Alix went from living in a working-class neighborhood in Port-au-Prince and speaking basic English, to graduating from one of the most prestigious military schools in the U.S. Here’s what he posted on Instagram to explain why that day meant so much to him.

Three things came to mind and led to those tears. The first is where I started…

Dear world: We apologize for this shithole of a president

I apologize to the world … with the caveat that I didn’t vote for him. My country isn’t the USA, even though I live in Florida. My country is Puerto Rico … and by his actions during his visit after Hurricane María and his words yesterday, I believe HE considers my country to be a ‘shithole’ too!!

Political Murder

Just when you think Donald Trump can’t go any lower, he always finds a way.

There has been swift and worldwide condemnation of Trump’s remarks questioning why the U.S. should accept immigrants from Haiti and other “shithole” countries — you know, where black people come from — and why America doesn’t take more from countries like Norway — one of the whitest of the white. Trump was meeting with congressional leaders on immigration issues, once more see-sawing between “signing whatever you put in front of me” (his words earlier in the week) and his descent into the shithole in the latest meeting.

Condemnation of Trump’s racist remarks came from all corners — except from congressional Republicans. Only four members of the GOP criticized him, while the others kept silent, blamed his incendiary words on political naivete, or dragged out the old chestnut of being “not politically correct.” (House Speaker…

“Mr. President, your so-called ‘shithole’ countries make Miami great”

Repeating Islands

Here is another response to Trump’s recent barrage of racially-charged slurs by Fabiola Santiago (Miami Herald). Here are excerpts:

Let me tell you, Mr. President, about those people you think come from “shithole” countries. They made Miami what it is today, a city like no other in the United States. You won’t defeat or degrade us with your undignified slurs.

Every single group from the Americas — whether their ancestors were from Europe or Africa or Asia or all of the above, like my very American offspring — has played a role, toiled at whatever necessary job was at hand from dawn to dusk. They brought to these shores stories, flavors and accents you’ve never had the pleasure of enjoying in your racist cocoon.

The result of all those immigrants’ sweat equity and fierce energy — the result of the risks they took leaving homelands, sacrificing family…
