Dr. Martin Luther King’s Forgotten Message – The Other America

Immemorial words …. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr!! They apply to any moment in time!
‘Racism is defined as person who shows or feels bigotry or prejudice against people of other races, because they believe their particular race is superior to others.’
This is what the ‘so-called president’ has shown over and over again!!
Unacceptable!

We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident

“least racist” means “racist” but not as racist as others you know.

Just a moment ago, I heard the news play Donald Trump’s statement where he said he’s the “least racist person …”   Mr. Trump, “least racist” means you are “racist” but by your own comparisons, you think others are more racist than yourself.  Other than the Supreme Court of the United States, you hold the highest power in the land.  Racism is defined as person who shows or feels bigotry or prejudice against people of other races, because they believe their particular race is superior to others.

Give such people power and authority over the lives of others, and we have systemic, institutionalized racism.

Mr. Trump, being “least racist” is unacceptable.  You represent a country of people of all races, all genders, all economic statuses. You represent the healthy and the sick; the educated and poorly educated; people of…

La Ruta De María: A journey along the path of the hurricane

Hurricane María … destroyed my country!! didn’t destroy the ‘BORICUA SPIRIT’ ….

Repeating Islands

casa.hurricane-maria-super-169

This is an eye-opener; “La Ruta De María: A journey along the path of the hurricane” by John D. Sutter (CNN; with data analysis by Sergio Hernandez and video by McKenna Ewen and John D. Sutter) shows how tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans have applied for temporary roofs but still have not received them three months after Hurricane Maria:

Each morning before work, Héctor Luis Rodríguez Nieves showers with a garden hose behind his tattered home. He uses the jungle as his restroom. He sleeps on a mattress in what once was the kitchen. Above the bed, clothes hang from the rafters — like Spanish moss from trees. The floor in his old bedroom turned to cardboard and sags like a trampoline. A hole opened up. Few places in the house stay dry. That’s because, three months after Hurricane Maria, he still doesn’t have a functional…

Donald Trump doesn’t understand Haiti, immigration or American history

Drumpf is an IDIOT … he doesn’t understand or care to learn anything! Embarrassing!!

Repeating Islands

[Many thanks to Peter Jordens for bringing this item to our attention.] Dr. Chantalle F. Verna (associate professor of History and International Relations, Florida International University, and author of Haiti and the Uses of America) recently published a comprehensive historical overview of Haitian history, showing how it ties in to today’s ongoing disrespect of Haitian peoples. Here are excerpts; do not miss the full article in The Conversation.

Donald Trump’s denigrating comments about Haiti during a recent congressional meeting shocked people around the globe, but given his track record of disrespecting immigrants, they were not actually that surprising.

Despite campaign promises that Trump would be Haiti’s “biggest champion,” his administration had already demonstrated its disregard for people from this Caribbean island. In November 2017, the Department of Homeland Security announced it would end the Temporary Protected Status that had allowed 59,000 Haitians to stay in the…

Martin Luther King Day – January 15th

Amazing … this is the example Americans should follow!!
I thought this is what America stood for …

The Chicago Files

[courtesy https://www.aceweekly.com/]

I wrote this post a few years ago in honor of Martin Luther King Day.  Every year I think to myself, hhhhmmm, can I add anything more to what I have already written about Dr. King? I think what I have written in past years stands today as to how I feel about him and what he stood for.  So here it is; I hope you enjoy it!

To most Canadians, Dr. Martin Luther King is an iconic figure that fought for the civil rights of African-Americans.  Not a lot is said or written about him in Canada (at least to my knowledge), but yet there is a collective understanding among Canadians that what Dr. King stood for was right and true.  Perhaps this is a simplistic way of putting it on my part, but there is a reason for it.  I see it as a nod of agreement…

I learned about Erika because she co-wrote ‘Despacito’. As I researched about her, I found out how much more talented she is. She has a new CD called “Tatuajes” (Tattoos) which is excellent. This is one of my favorites new songs.

Lyrics

MLK7

~~January 15, 2018~~

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

All of us know who he is.

All of us who lived through his time are queenly aware of the importance of his message. I strongly believe that he is very much needed during these current times.

Let’s remember some of his thoughts.

There are so many.

Here are but a few.
