No, America Has Not Changed

America HAS NOT changed! In fact, it’s getting worse …
‘Racism is very much alive and well, and while I would agree that we shouldn’t need to legislate fairness and equality, the ugly truth is that we still very much do need to.’
The problem is …. ‘LIVING WHILE BLACK‘ ….

Filosofa's Word

In 2013, the Supreme Court repealed Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act because, as Chief Justice John Roberts said, “Our country has changed. While any racial discrimination in voting is too much, Congress must ensure that the legislation it passes to remedy that problem speaks to current conditions.”  Justice Roberts clearly felt that racism was no longer the problem it was in 1965 when the law was originally passed.  Well, guess what folks … it is every bit as big a problem today.  Two stories from this past week prove the point.

Two men entered a Starbucks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  They did not immediately place an order, for they were waiting for their friend, Andrew Yaffe, to join them before ordering.  Mr. Yaffe would arrive in just a few minutes, only to find his friends being arrested by Philadelphia police.  Why?  They were being arrested for ‘defiant trespassing’…

I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I was born in Santurce and raised in Rio Piedras. Have lived in Florida since 1999. I have a doctorate degree in Medicine; completed in 1976. My Internal Medicine specialty was completed in 1979. Worked for Puerto Rico's health system until 1985. At this time, I'm happily retired after working for the federal government for almost 28yrs. I want to offer any knowledge that I have to anyone "out there" who is interested. My views are liberal in almost every sense. My knowledge is "eclectic" - a bit of everything. Music and reading are my passion. Blogging has also become a very interesting endeavor. Metaphysical topics attract me. I'm interested in news reporting human issues like injustice, discrimination and abuse - the "wrongly" affected. My intention is to bring this knowledge to an understandable level and to help anyone in need. I'm open to questions and will answer them to the best of my ability. Currently working on an enterprise whose main mission will be to bring peoples of all walks of life together. To be one .... since we ALL are ONE!! The future looks bright and promising!!!

  1. I wonder if things will ever change, Doc. Clearly they aren’t the same at in 1818, or are they? Deep down under the facade of change, has it all just been a big show? Maybe i should just try to sleep right now because things always look so bleak this time of morning, but this seems to be when my brain refuses to shut down. Young people seem to be filled with hope, but we were all young once. Probably time for me to turn Joan Baez off and switch to Mozart for a while. G’nite!
