One of my favorite movies and favorite songs!! Such memories …. Love!!

The first time I heard this song was in 1988 when my daughter and I went to see the movie, Beaches.  It was one of the few movies I have seen in a theater that I could understand the dialog, and I much enjoyed both the story and the music.

The song, Wind Beneath My Wings, was actually recorded by several artists before the release of Beaches, including Gladys Knight and the Pips, Sheena Easton, Lee Greenwood and Lou Rawls.  Who knew?  But by far the most popular version was the one sung by Bette Midler in Beaches.  The song, released as a single in early 1989, spent one week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in June 1989 in the U.S.  I found it humorous that in the UK it was the most-played song at British funerals!  I’m scratching my head on that one…

I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I was born in Santurce and raised in Rio Piedras. Have lived in Florida since 1999. I have a doctorate degree in Medicine; completed in 1976. My Internal Medicine specialty was completed in 1979. Worked for Puerto Rico's health system until 1985. At this time, I'm happily retired after working for the federal government for almost 28yrs. I'm interested in news reporting human issues like injustice, discrimination and abuse - the "wrongly" affected.
