… and he brings his usual HOPE!!

Miracles do happen. The former Democratic Party President Barack Obama is hitting the campaign trail to get US citizens to get out the vote.

He started with his first speech in Illinois, asking whatever happened to the Republican Party? It used to be the party that was fiscally conservative, that fought raising the US deficit, that stood against totalitarian regimes like Russia. This was the party that championed free trade. This party is unrecognizable today as ever having espoused strongly these principles.

President Obama did not refer to the republican President Donald Trump by name, as he is the symptom, not the cause of today’s Republican Party. For a wave election, it’s important to highlight those republicans who have been failing in their oversight duties as they continue to support this president with his dysfunctional governing style. This is what voters have the power to change.

‘Respect’ …. “🇬🇧🎼 Performed at Buckingham Palace … as ‘The Queen of Soul’ is Laid to Rest 🎼🇬🇧 …. “!!

~~September 7, 2018~~

Band of the Welsh Guards

I know this happened a while ago.

Still it’s so very important to receive such an honor and realize the reach of the “Queen of Soul.

I also needed something uplifting today.

The Queen of Soul was honored outside Queen Elizabeth’s London residence

The Band of the Welsh Guards paid tribute to Aretha Franklin outside at Buckingham Palace in London on Friday, as stars turned out to attend the legendary singer’s funeral in Detroit. They played Franklin’s hit “Respect” during the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

“The Band of the Welsh Guards are world famous for their musical versatility and professional performance and on August 16 paid tribute to another musical icon and one that has been of huge influence and inspiration to our musicians – Aretha Franklin, whose funeral was being held in Detroit 3,748 miles away, at the same time of the Queen’s Guard Change,” the British Army wrote on their YouTube page.

“In the Army Respect for others underpins all that we do, so there was only one tune that would do for today’s ceremony: the 1967 Aretha Franklin hit ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T.’ a declaration from a strong confident woman who knows that she has everything.”

The performance was received with respectful applause from the gathered crowd.

“As it appears in … full read/full credit”

On the Lighter Side

Ordered my copy … should arrive by next week!! Anticipation quite high … LOL!!

By Hook Or By Book

Well, I still haven’t managed to get my hands on a coveted copy of Bob Woodward’s forthcoming book, something I’m bitterly resentful about. Seriously, what makes CNN so special? But thanks to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, we have some early thoughts from some reviewers I implicitly trust.

♫ First Time Ever I Saw Your Face ♫

Once again … same musical tastes!! A very important song in my life … loved it!!

Filosofa's Word

This was the breakout hit for Roberta Flack; it was #1 in the US for six weeks. Flack had released two solo albums without commercial success, as her blend of jazz and folk styles struggled to find an audience.

British folk singer Ewan MacColl wrote this in 1957 for his lover Peggy Seeger. She was in a play in the U.S. and phoned him for suggestions on a song for a romantic scene. MacColl wrote this on the spot in less than an hour, then taught it to her over the phone to use in her play. MacColl, by the way, had been banned from the U.S. because of his communist past.  His history is really quite interesting.

“We weren’t really getting along at the time.  After all, he was married to someone else then.” – Peggy Seeger

MacColl was married to his second wife, Jean Newlove at the time…
