QUEST

CANDLE

In the Xhoso culture of Africa, UBUNTU means, “I am because We are.”  Dr. Horty @ IT IS WHAT IT IS  blog shared this with her readers.  I found it absolutely profound in the troubled times of our world and especially American society today.

The boy replied, “How can any one of us be happy if the others are sad?”

An anthropologist visiting and studying the Xhoso tribe placed a basket of fruit and presented a game to a group of young boys.  Run to the fruit and claim it.  If the strongest and fastest of those boys had raced to the basket of fruit placed at a short distance from them, that one boy could have claimed all the fruits.  Instead, they joined hands, ran together as a group, and claimed the fruits as one, thereby insuring all would partake of the prize.  When the anthropologist questioned their…

Lindsey’s Great Tirade …

Lindsey Graham has sold his soul to the devil … there’s something ‘they’ have hanging over his coiffed head!!
He’s become a despicable southerner, with a histrionic touch … ‘I’m a single while male’ …an audition for an audience of one … and the Oscar for Best Actor goes to …
Lost the little respect I had for the man. Guess his integrity was buried along with his then friend Sen. John McCain!!

Filosofa's Word

There was a time I had some respect for Lindsey Graham.  However, since that time, he has fallen prey to the machinations of the far, far right movement and its current icon, Donald Trump, and I now find Lindsey to be despicable … and that was the kindest word I could come up with.

Lindsey used to be known for his willingness to be bipartisan and work with Democrats on many issues like campaign finance reform, line item veto, global warming, waterboarding ban, immigration reform and more.  In the beginning, he was opposed to the Tea Party movement, arguing for a more inclusive Republican Party.  After his own brief, unsuccessful run for president in 2015, he threw his support behind Jeb Bush, and when Bush dropped out, behind Ted Cruz.  He adamantly refused to support Donald Trump, and I applauded his values. But that was then, and this is now.

Why it Matters

THIS MATTERS … more than we will every know! Not only for the fact that Kavanaugh may become a Justice. There’s so much more to the beliefs that ground us.
‘We tend to keep memories that are important to us. It was a significant memory for Dr. Christine Baisley Ford but not for Judge Kavanaugh or any of the others.’

The Question

During Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Senator Kamala Harris asked Judge Brett Kavanaugh the question that crossed my mind while hearing his opening statement.  “Do you agree that men can be friends with some women and treat other women badly?”  To which the Judge responded, “Of course, but the point I’m trying to emphasize is…” At which time he brought up the 65 signatures of women who have been his friends since he was fourteen.

Here is a segment of Judge Kavanaugh’s opening statement:                                                  “Dr. Ford’s allegation stems from a party that she alleges occurred during the summer of 1982, 36 years ago. I was 17 years old between my junior and senior years of high school at Georgetown Prep, a rigorous, all-boys…
