DETROIT YOUTH CHOIR

I watched the show today.

This wonderful musical ensemble was simply beyond amazing.

Music has the power to touch lives and change journeys.

Terry Crews was emotional and so was I.

See for yourself!

Enjoy!

Detroit Youth Choir moves an inspired Terry Crews to tears, wins a golden buzzer

When “America’s Got Talent” host Terry Crews looked at the Detroit Youth Choir, he saw himself.

The community-based group, led by Choir Director Anthony White, is composed of dozens of inner-city schoolchildren looking for a safe space to express themselves through music and dance.

Fighting back tears, Crews said, “Every man and woman on this stage represents me and where I came from. I remember sitting at my window in Flint, Michigan, dreaming about wanting to make it and wanting to be here – and they are here.”

The Detroit Youth Choir performed a high-energy rendition of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Can’t Hold Us,” surprisingly merging classic choir notes with rapping and upbeat choreography.

They received a standing ovation and – like the song lyrics say – the ceiling couldn’t hold the rowdy applause. Newcomer judge Julianne Hough said,

“It starts with the people, and you guys came together and created something that was traditional choir and you … made it fresh.”

The young choir from Detroit perform an unexpected rendition of “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and earn a well-deserved Golden Buzzer from Michigan’s own Terry Crews!

JUNETEENTH

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America.

The Lavender Scare

Thank you for sharing this … THE LAVENDER SCARE … HISTORICAL!! … US government sanctioned discrimination against homosexuals!

‘Informative documentary on PBS called “The Lavender Scare.” This show documents a lengthy period of US government sanctioned discrimination against homosexuals that lasted from the early 1950’s to mid 1990’s.’

musingsofanoldfart

My wife and I watched an informative documentary on PBS last night called “The Lavender Scare.” This show documents a lengthy period of US government sanctioned discrimination against homosexuals that lasted from the early 1950s to mid 1990s.

The scare evolved directly from the efforts of Senator Joseph McCarthy who led the “red scare” as he carried out communist witch hunts. He turned his eye toward homosexuals saying (without data) those who worked in the government were susceptible to communist blackmailers. Yet, unlike his communist witch hunt publicly dying due to his “lack of decency,” as the Secretary of the Army said, the Lavender Scare gained footing.

To my chagrin, I learned former General Dwight Eisenhower campaigned for President on this issue and signed an executive order in 1953 to identify and expel homosexuals from government positions. This saddens me because of the obvious discrimination, but also because the former…

“I Am So Sorry”! Thus Spake Biden!

Indeed … there’s something about him that doesn’t sit well with me!! … ‘But to me actions have spoken louder than his apology … a Centrist does not change its spots in mid-stream … and neither will Biden.’

In Saner Thought

2020 is heating up and the leader of the pack (another rock reference) Joe Biden is reversing most of his conserv stances from the past….he is trying to convince the babbling throngs that he is a progressive….to do this he has set off on an “Apology Tour” across the US….and one voter has seen it for what it is….pure fecal matter…..

His letter to Biden…..

Dear Mr. Biden:

News outlets are reporting that you’re determined to prevent your campaign from turning into an “apology tour” this summer. But your only other option is a campaign of denial — sinking deeper into a quagmire of unsustainable pretense.

After your flip-flop late last week that finally renounced your 40 years of support for the Hyde Amendment’s discriminatory limits on reproductive rights for low-income women, the New York Times reported that your campaign’s “larger concern” has been “the implications of Mr. Biden spending…
