VIRTUAL COMMENCEMENT SPEECH

I never was a political person, not even when I lived in Puerto Rico. The details I knew where sketchy at best. That has changed since the fateful ‘escalator’ day.

Last night I was excited, expectant, giddy because President Obama would be delivering the commencement speech to the Class of 2020.

He didn’t disappoint!

The program itself was very well prepared, coordinated, inspiring and crowned with the best presentation … in too many long years.

I know it inspired, comforted and soothed me.

Obama addressed graduates on Saturday during “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020,” an hour-long special during which big-name celebrities, like LeBron James, the Jonas Brothers and Bad Bunny, came together to help homebound high schoolers celebrate their accomplishment.

The 44th president acknowledged that graduating is already a big milestone especially given certain obstacles that some seniors have had to overcome – and that’s not even counting a global pandemic.

“It’s when you get to decide what’s important to you. The kind of career you want to pursue. Who you want to build a family with. The values you want to live by,” Obama said.

“And given the current state of the world, that may be kind of scary, but I hope that’s also inspiring.”
