An Incalculable Loss

To end ‘Memorial Day Weekend … ” I’ve seen about 20 of these and you can see a bunch of them here at Steve’s Facebook page (again. Cartoonists. Get a website).”

During Memorial Day weekend, while the U.S. death toll from the coronavirus was nearing 100,000, and after he had called for the reopening of the nation’s churches, Donald Trump was playing golf. In fact, he hit the course that he owns in Virginia, twice. Quite frankly, I’m surprised he felt confident enough about his safety to play in Virginia since we can’t “protect our potatoes.” He also kinda looks like a giant sweet potato where the sweetness was substituted with racism.

The New York Times ran a front-page Sunday listing the victims of the coronavirus. Of course, they couldn’t all fit on the front page so it continued to the inside pages.

Donald Trump criticized President Obama for playing golf during the Ebola crisis. That crisis killed two people. Donald Trump promised during the 2016 election that he would be “too busy” to play golf. As it turns out now…

Grandpa Trump’s Magik Elixir

THIS!! … “Trump is a carnival barker. He’s always been a con man. But con men need stupid people to succeed. Fortunately for Trump, there are plenty of those and they’re all Republicans.”

Here’s your cartoon for CNN’s weekly newsletter, Provoke/Persuade. Please sign up to get these in your inbox every Sunday for the rest of your life.

As I wrote a few days ago, the only reason Donald Trump is pushing junk science is to be divisive. The man wants to divide Americans as much as possible. For some reason, he believes it benefits him. Donald Trump only cares about Donald Trump.

He pushes medication that hasn’t been proven to help anyone. If anything, it’s proven to hurt people and even kill them. Donald Trump doesn’t care.

Donald Trump doesn’t want to be seen wearing a mask. He claims it’s to deny the image from reporters, which is childish. Reporters and the media didn’t create the mask narrative. They don’t own it. The truth is, Donald Trump likes politicizing the pandemic. He likes that his supporters are refusing to wear a mask…

American Casualties of COVID

THIS!! …. “We mourn for our fellow citizens. We mourn for 100,000 Americans, sadly knowing there will be more. We mourn for the America that once was.”

Envisioning The American Dream

This Memorial Day is unlike any we have experienced in our lifetime.

For one group of Americans, this Memorial Day means temporarily giving up cherished holiday rituals. For them there will be no beaches, back yard barbecues, or blockbuster movies. For another group of Americans who will insist on going on with life as usual, groups will gather, crowds will congregate. Carefree and unprotected they will proudly wear no protective mask to hide their sneers or outrage at the infringement of their freedom.

But for close to 100,000 Americans there will never ever be another Memorial Day spent at the beach soaking up the sun, nor a happy gathering of family and friends drinking beer at a backyard barbecue. They would gladly wear a mask if they could.

NY Times Near 100,000 US Deaths Memorial Day 2020

This Sunday The N.Y. Times dramatically printed the names and excerpts of obituaries of 1,000 of the nearly 100,000 Americans we have…

You Ain’t Black

THIS!! … “Biden will not lose the black vote but his greatest danger is that it will be diminished over comments like, “You ain’t black.” Our greatest danger from that is the re-election of racist Donald Trump who said “Very fine people” marched with Nazis and “Send them back.”

Over this weekend, pro-Trump goons and sycophants left comments underneath my cartoons demanding that I draw on Joe Biden’s gaffe where he said, “You Ain’t black.”

Apparently, some people think my cartoons are supposed to give equal time. Wrong. They think a cartoonist is not supposed to be biased. Wrong. They think a cartoon is supposed to be fair. Super duper wrong. I’m a liberal cartoonist. I hit the targets I believe deserve it and are a threat to the nation, which tend to be Republicans. Occasionally, that does mean I hit a Democrat. I am fiercely independent. I will never be a member of any party or campaign for a candidate. But, I will work to defeat a racist, stupid, dumbass TV reality host that shouldn’t be allowed on the White House tour, less enough living in the place.

Also, this isn’t open mic night where I take requests…

Memorial Day 2020

There are no words … “A number is an imperfect measure when applied to the human condition. A number provides an answer to how many, but it can never convey the individual arcs of life, the 100,000 ways of greeting the morning and saying goodnight … to share that closing prayer, that parting glass, that final hug.
One. Hundred. Thousand.“

Live & Learn

The New York Times Front Page (May 24, 2020): “An Incalculable Loss.” America is fast approaching a grim milestone in the coronavirus outbreak — each figure here represents one of the nearly 100,000 lives lost so far. But a count reveals only so much. Memories, gathered from obituaries across the country, help us to reckon with what was lost.

One hundred thousand.

A number is an imperfect measure when applied to the human condition. A number provides an answer to how many, but it can never convey the individual arcs of life, the 100,000 ways of greeting the morning and saying goodnight…to share that closing prayer, that parting glass, that final hug.

One. Hundred. Thousand.

My Momoa Monday Moment …. 🌺 Behind the SEE: Down by the River …. 🌺

~~May 25, 2020~~

It’s Monday. It’s time for me Momoa Moment search.

There’s a series on Apple TV called ‘See’. I thought it was a movie and, after watching this ‘behind the scenes YouTube video, I went looking through Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. I couldn’t find it.

Here’s fun on how this scene was filmed in Canada.

Jason continues to be ‘the man’!

Monday ‘Memorial’ Madness …. “😢 Numbers: Each One a Person, Each One a Life, Each One a Unit 😢 …. “!!

~~May 25, 2020~~

The number of confirmed COVID-19 numbers in the mighty US of A continue to raise. So have the number of dead.

The curve hasn’t been flattened one bit in the country overall. It seems as if New York City, state, maybe the West Coast: California, Oregon and Washington state have but not the country as a whole.

As we’ve seen, the ‘so-called’ President of a once respected and mighty country celebrates this solemn Memorial Day weekend and the ‘massacre’ of American citizens (aggravated by him) by going golfing at his Virginia property.

Monday ‘Memorial’ Meditation …. “🙏🏽 The Human Toll: Just a Few of So Many 🙏🏽 …. “!!

~~May 25, 2020~~

The NYT printed names and a short statement about 1,000 of the 100,000 people who have succumbed to COVID-19. 1,000 is only 1% of the total of soul that have been lost.

This morning, as I scrolled through FB, I found this posting. As mentioned, I hope the writer doesn’t mind that I used her words verbatim. Please, read … and see why they are so profoundly touching and barely scratch the surface.

The enormity of the loss is, as the NYT wrote,
