Today he traveled to Dallas. He went to a ‘mega church’ to talk about ‘race relations’ – the message many are expecting from this incapable man. As he ‘spoke’ , these words came out of the pouty lips.

National Guard, military force, tear gas, flash grenades, dominating that street for a photo op, using all those around him who ‘serve’ him … a ‘beautiful scene’.

DAY OF THE PUERTO RICAN FLAG

It commemorates when the flag was first raised. On December 22, 1895, a group of 59 Puerto Ricans, gathered at “Chimney Corner Hall” in Manhattan, New York City to promote the ideal of Puerto Rican independence from Spain. The city of Manati also celebrated Flag Day on June 11, the date when the flag was created.

Law 53 of 1948  better known as the Gag Law, (Spanish: Ley de La Mordaza) was an act enacted by the Puerto Rico legislature of 1948, with the purpose of suppressing the independence movement in Puerto Rico. The act made it a crime to own or display a Puerto Rican flag, to sing a patriotic tune, to speak or write of independence, or to meet with anyone or hold any assembly in favor of Puerto Rican independence. 

It was passed by a legislature that was overwhelmingly dominated by members of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), which supported developing an alternative political status for the island. The bill was signed into law on June 10, 1948 by Jesús T. Piñero, the United States-appointed governor. Opponents tried but failed to have the law declared unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court.

The law remained in force for nine years until 1957, when it was repealed on the basis that it was unconstitutional as protected by freedom of speech within Article II of the Constitution of Puerto Rico and the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.

For him, love of art is inseparable from love of the outdoors—not raw wilderness, but the landscape of a dirt road cutting through a barren landscape, abandoned boats lying on a shore, an orchard or (a theme he returns to several times in his work) a church in the woods. My father possesses a pure love of light, and trees, the curve of a hill, the angle of a barn roof—shadows and colors. Weekends, as early as I can remember—age five or six maybe—we head out to the horticulture farm of the university with our walking sticks. Now and then, my mother and sister come, but often it’s just the two of us under the experimental apple trees sketching a field of cows or a stretch of abandoned railroad tracks.
