If the song is not a powerful enough statement, they dropped it in tandem with the word “Dixie” from their household band name. On Thursday, their website and social handles were changed to “The Chicks,” telling the world, “We want to meet this moment.”

The female country-trio – Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer, and Martie Maguire – have garnered a reputation that splits down party lines. They left the world with a warning piece in their 2006 album.

After being cast out from the country music industry, they were still “Not Ready To Make Nice.” After years of whispers and pop-up features, The Chicks shared the anthemic title-track to their long-anticipated record, Gaslighter, in March. Though the subject of their wrath was Maines’ ex-husband, the delivery was politically-charged, drawing militant comparisons, similar to “March March.” 

The video opens with a quote: “If your voice held no power, they wouldn’t try to silence you.” A montage of footage follows, exhibiting Americans demonstrating their first amendment rights to protest peacefully.

It begins with footage from the Black Lives Matter movement and the fury following the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department. From Times Square to Pennsylvania Avenue, thousands of Americans of all ages and races gathered, demanding justice in the wake of unimaginable racially-charged police brutality. Trump’s response with police and military force has been criticized as inhibiting this constitutional right. 

The Chicks wrote “March March” with Dan Wilson, Jack Antonoff, Ross Golan, and Ian Kirkpatrick. The video reels through various political topics, but the urgency remains. “Tell the ol’ boys in the white bread lobby, What they can and can’t do with their bodies,” they harmonize in condemnation of abortion legislation continuously led by unaffected parties.

Lincoln Project releases brutal new anti-Trump ad on Putin’s reported bounty for killing of US troops

“In the last year, flag-draped coffins have returned from Afghanistan. Now we know Vladimir Putin pays a bounty for the murder of American soldiers,” the narrator says.

“Trump knows too – and does nothing,” the ad continues. “Putin pays the Taliban cash to slaughter our men and women in uniform and Trump is silent.”

Those of you out there, undoubtedly Republicans, who just knew the warm weather would result in COVID going away were wrong.  Here in sunny, hot and humid Florida, where the temp reached 98 degrees yesterday and was into the nineties all this week saw your favorite bars closed again.  Guess you’ve gotta drink your booze in the yard.

Florida and Texas rolled back their grand re-openings; new cases reached 9,000 more here just yesterday – in one day.  This week a 17 year old girl died in the county in which I live.  No one knows how she contracted the disease or with whom she was in contact.  Our Governor was all hurrahs just a month ago with Florida apparently doing quite well as compared to New York and other hot spots.  As a good Republican…

Yesterday, the White House Coronavirus Task Force held their first briefing in 8 weeks. You do remember those, right? As it turns out, Dr. Deborah Birx has not been abducted by aliens. These briefings were ended after Donald Trump suggested everybody drink bleach and Drano to kill the coronavirus.

But, the administration was forced to say something about the virus since the first wave won’t go away, southern states fucked up by reopening too fast with some starting to scale back (no alcohol in bars in Florida and Texas), cases are increasing, but most of all, because Donald Trump is about 15 points behind Joe Biden in national polls and behind him in every swing state. He’s even behind Biden in places like Texas, Georgia, and Mississippi. And Biden has rarely left his house.

Let me first say this: I’m neither shocked nor angry that a Russian military intelligence unit was offering/paying a bounty to Taliban-linked militants for attacking and killing coalition forces — including U.S. and British troops — in Afghanistan. After all, the US did essentially the same thing during the 1980s when Russia invaded Afghanistan. It’s ugly business, to be sure, but war is never nice; paying proxy troops fight the enemy has been a common facet of warfare since…well, since war was invented.

Don’t get me wrong. It may be a common practice, but it’s loathsome. Governments should still object to it. A Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to militants in Afghanistan for killing coalition forces – including targeting American troops, according to a report Friday, June 26, 2020.

The revelations, from American intelligence officials – reported by The New York Times – came as the US, Taliban militants and the Afghan government are struggling to cut a peace deal to end the 18-year conflict.

Twenty Americans were killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2019, but it was not clear which of them could have been linked to Russia’s bounty.

Trump was briefed on the bounties, and the National Security Council discussed the problem in late March 2020, the officials told The Times.

The NSC brass developed potential options – from demanding that the Kremlin stop the practice to sanctions and other possible responses – but the White House has not approved of any action against Russia or President Vladimir Putin, a former top KBG official himself.

The Duke of Sussex has launched a 248-mile trek through the Oman desert, as wounded veterans follow in the footsteps of Sir Wilfred Thesiger for a challenge “unlike anything they’ve faced before”.

The Duke, who will be patron of the Walking With the Wounded expedition, said veterans would need “incredible physical and mental strength” to complete the journey, pulling a cart through searing heat through the Empty Quarter.

The journey, in which an elite band of sick and injured ex-military will trek 12 or 13 miles a day in harsh conditions, marks the 10th anniversary of the charity.
