STAGE VS SCREEN? … ““Hamilton,” Lin-Manuel Miranda’s revisionist take on our founding fathers, was the subject of conversation, debate and argument at The Times when the musical premiered Off Broadway in 2015 and again when it moved to Broadway. Why should the filmed version, which started streaming on Disney+ over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, be any different?’
Five critics wade into the controversies (like its treatment of slavery) and examine the performances (especially Lin-Manuel Miranda’s) five years after the show debuted.
“Hamilton,” Lin-Manuel Miranda’s revisionist take on our founding fathers, was the subject of conversation, debate and argument at The Times when the musical premiered Off Broadway in 2015 and again when it moved to Broadway. Why should the filmed version, which started streaming on Disney+ over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, be any different? I asked the critics at large Wesley Morris and A.O. Scott, the co-chief theater critic Jesse Green, the chief pop music critic Jon Pareles and the arts critic fellow Maya Phillips to discuss the show in changing contexts: onscreen not onstage, and as protests over racism and police reform are forcing the country to face up to its history. Here…
As if I needed another reason to loathe this ‘swamp creature’!! … “Trump’s initial reaction to the devastating hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico in 2017 were to suggest that the United States sell, or “divest” from the territory, a former acting secretary of Homeland Security said on Friday. …. Elaine Duke who served as Trump’s second secretary of Homeland Security.”
Donald Trump’s initial reaction to the devastating hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico in 2017 were to suggest that the United States sell, or “divest” from the territory, a former acting secretary of Homeland Security said on Friday. Elaine Duke, who served as Trump’s second secretary of Homeland Security, replacing John Kelly when he became Trump’s chief-of-staff, has become the latest former Trump cabinet member to speak out against her old boss, telling the New York Times in an interview this past week that Trump cares little about policy, and uses “hate-filled, angry and divisive” language.
Duke was acting secretary when she signed off on ending the DACA protections—the program set up by the Obama administration to protect young undocumented immigrants, known as Dreamers, from deportation. Duke told the Times that she agreed the program…
I found the words posted below as I scrolled through social media yesterday. They touched my heart, my soul and my mind. As a retired physician, my goal at work was to save lives and empathize with those under my care.
I don’t consider myself a bad person. I believe I’m emotional, even-keeled, fair and just, quite intelligent, compassionate, social, fun to be around.
The recent years have changed me. I try to stay informed. I believe it’s my duty to do so. If I don’t stay informed how will I know what’s coming?
I took the liberty of using these words because they resonate with what I feel inside … the concern, the despair, and yes, the hatred for an evil entity who has done so much damage to the society where I lead my life.
I can only ask that you understand where I’m coming from. I’m not proud … but this is my reality!
The band has released six full-length studio albums with their most recent studio album, Blood Money Part 1, being released on October 28, 2016. The lineup currently consists of founding member and lead singer Edsel Dope, guitarist Virus, bassist Acey Slade, and drummer Daniel Fox.
I’m waiting on Mary Trump’s book. I think it’s mostly because I want to read the nitty gossip. I don’t need her book to know that I know about the squatter in the Oval. The ‘sack of skin’ has shown over and over again what and who he is.
There’s no law, there’s no order … it’s only crime, grifting and the seven cardinal sins.
They are pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth.
The Lincoln Project’s latest ad, “Law and Order,” condemns President Trump’s choice to commute Roger Stone’s sentence. Stone was an informal advisor to the President and convicted of several felonies for lying under oath, obstructing a congressional inquiry, and obstructing witness testimony – in order to protect the president.
This continues a pattern of numerous convicted felons who have festered in the Trump Administration and campaign.
“Roger Stone lied under oath, he was given a fair trial, found guilty by a jury of his peers and sentenced. But because he’s cozy with Trump he gets a break.” Lenti continued,
“This administration’s inner circle of convicted felons cannot have another chance to bury our country into the ground any further than they already have.”
Trump’s administration looks out for one person and one person only – and that’s Trump. He’s not an honorable commander in chief. He scammed the American people who voted for him into thinking he’d actually work for them – he’s shown himself to be the failed businessman he truly is.
Trump’s campaign manager is a felon. His deputy campaign manager is a felon. His national security advisor is a felon. His foreign policy advisor is a felon. His personal lawyer is a felon. His long time advisor is a felon.
Did we really need to get to the Roger Stone ‘commuted’ sentence to know that this FIDIOT is a criminal?
If that is the case, let me sell you a freezer in the Arctic!
Anyway, just being facetious about the freezer.
The Meidas Touch continues to create hard-hitting, on target ads about the dumfickery that is this ‘presidency’. It’s a criminal syndicate. Anyone who still believes, supports and enable this criminal is complicit in the demise of the ‘great American Experiment‘.
Trump and those who have aided and abetted the devastation he has brought on our country used the slogan ‘drain the swamp’ to describe how they would rid Washington D.C. of corruption and crime.
Like all of Trump’s projections however, Trump and his enablers, have brought more corruption, crime, and abuse of process to Washington D.C. than we could have fathomed in our worst nightmares.
The Department of Justice has lost all credibility and, like a banana republic, it targets Trump’s enemies and looks the other way on criminal conduct that helps Trump. Horrifyingly, Trump treats whistleblowers fighting to save our democracy as traitors, and treats traitors who have supported efforts by foreign adversaries to harm our country as heroes.
We are living in the sick perverted twilight zone that is the Trump regime.
As our video concludes, Trump did not rid America of the swamp, Trump is the swamp. Trump is a cancer to America, and we must all united to vote him out!
Our video was, of course, inspired by Trump granting clemency to Roger Stone for convictions arising out his support of Trump, but the the video touches more broadly on the raging and unprecedented criminal conduct that has defined the Trump administration.
