I wish I knew who took this photograph. I saw it this morning and I had an immediate emotional response to it. It’s a powerful photo. It’s not art, but it documents something critically important about yesterday’s announcement that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had won the 2020 election.
The finger is a gesture that’s been around since the Greeks and Romans. It’s a universal gesture of contempt, of anger, of disrespect, of defiance. It means Fuck you, it means Go fuck yourself, it means Shove this up your ass. It’s NOT a polite gesture.

The long awaited moment came. It was as much and more than I expected. It was a balm for an aching soul, a soothing for a very frayed psyche, a reassurance that ‘maybe’ it would be OK.
After almost five years of chaos, high level stress, dishonesty, cruelty, insults, irrationality, constant state of uncertainty and overt criminality, there was a collective sigh of relief and a sense of rationality.
I’m very aware of the division in this nation, I’m very aware (and saddened) that more than 70 million of Americans voted for the opposite (I can’t fathom why!) yet, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been tasked with the ‘healing of the soul of this nation’.
