Sunday Smiles ~ Bernie’s Mittens Part 2

This is plain awesome … “Bernie’s Mitten’s Part 2.”!!

By Hook Or By Book

While our country is still struggling with the concept of unity, one thing we all seem to agree on is how much we love Bernie and his mittens. They’ve inspired memes, merchandise, a poem, and a song parody. So, once more I’ve scoured the internet in search of the best. I present, “Bernie’s Mitten’s Part 2.” (I need to write a children’s book about this!)

You sat there, quite comfy, in your home-made mittens

We all took one look, and were suddenly smitten

You unintentionally became a work of art

You warmed your hands, and warmed our hearts

What you’ve accomplished, no one could dream

You united a country under a blanket of memes

Just sitting there, you set us on an upturn

You gave us what we needed, and we all feel the Bern

Six Little Stories of Wisdom

My Good Time Stories

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio from Pexels

One of the things that I enjoy, is finding stories, anecdotes, and other little nuggets of wisdom and knowledge to share with others. A friend of mine sent me the following Six VERY short stories that demonstrate short examples of simple truths. I hope that you find them as enjoyable and helpful as I did!

Once all villagers decided to pray for rain.  On the day of prayer all the people gathered,  but only one boy came with an umbrella.
That’s FAITH.
When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.
That’s TRUST.
Every night we go to bed  without any assurance of being alive the next morning,  but still we set the alarms to wake up.
That’s HOPE
We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge…

Sunday Serenity: Orchid in January — Calm in the Storm

May your words become our reality … “Like this gorgeous orchid, goodness will arrive, and how incredibly grateful we will feel.”

The Chicago Files

I cannot believe I’ve had this orchid for about ten years. Every time I begin to think it won’t bloom again, it does.

Dealing with the pandemic has been so stressful for everyone, including yours truly. But when I noticed a tiny little purple bulb beginning to form on the orchid, I felt calm, happy, and inspired.

It’s almost as if this beautiful orchid was reminding me that yes, things are going to get much better. It’s patience we need in order to see the brightness of our world appear again.

I hope you are doing well, and please remind yourself (and others) “this too shall pass.” We are going to be just fine, and the best way I can think of getting through this is by realizing everyone is experiencing it. Helping others, even with a quick call or email can make a huge difference when we (and others)…

Jewish Space Lasers

IN A NUTSHELL … “Good people don’t vote for Marjorie Taylor Greene. Good people don’t vote Republican.”

The first thing we need to address is that this shit is dangerous. I mock people like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump because I use humor to show they shouldn’t be taken seriously. Yet, they are taken seriously. Donald Trump became president (sic) of the United States of America. Marjorie Taylor Greene is sitting on the House Education Committee despite believing school shootings are “false flag” operations.

What needs to be addressed here isn’t that Greene is not just a nut who believes in conspiracy theories, but that her beliefs are dangerous. Her belief that Donald Trump won the election, and that Joe Biden stole it from him, gives support to terrorists.

Her belief that California wildfires were started by Jewish Space Lasers (I’m not making that up) is rooted in anti-Semitism. She’s a hater and a bigot. She feels the same way toward Muslims. For her, creating lies…

sound and silence moving through space and time, like music

Can’t be said any better … ““In the end, all of natural creation is only sound and silence moving through space and time, like music.”
— Danny Heitman, in a Book Review of Kathleen Dean Moore‘s “‘Earth’s Wild Music’ Review: Listening for Nature’s Melody” (, January 27, 2021).”

Live & Learn

For half a century, philosopher Kathleen Dean Moore has written about the natural world, her work shaped by the homes she’s made in Corvallis, Ore., and Chichaghof Island, Alaska. It’s also indebted to the conservationist and writer Rachel Carson (1907-1964), best known for “Silent Spring,” the landmark 1962 book in which she envisioned a world eerily hushed by pesticides. “I imagine,” Ms. Moore writes of Carson, “she called the book ‘Silent Spring’ . . . because it was the loss of the birds’ music that would grieve her the most.”

Ms. Moore adores birdsong, too, though in “Earth’s Wild Music: Celebrating and Defending the Songs of the Natural World” she details the threat of a broader quiet across the planet if humanity fails to heed warnings about the extinction crisis and other environmental challenges before us. “In the fifty years that I have been writing about nature,” she…

The Times They Are A-Changin’ …. 🕊 ‘Brandi Carlile and Mike McCready Playing For Change’ 🕊 …. “

~~January 30, 2021~~

In spite of the changes in American administration, I seem to have a persistent, sinking feeling about what it happening in this nation.

My dear friend, Martin, sent me this song trying to lift my spirits up.

Let’s give it a listen together.

Brandi Carlile, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready Tease Cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘The Times They Are a-Changin”

Brandi Carlile and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready previewed their performance of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a-Changin” from the Peace Through Music virtual concert, airing Tuesday, December 1st.

The 40-second clip captures the beginning of the performance, with Carlile singing lead on the song’s first verse. The accompaniment is sparse, although McCready and the other musicians on stage appear set to join in just as the clip ends.

Per a press release, Peace Through Music will honor the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and serve as a “call for equality, human rights, and an end to discrimination, spotlighting people of African descent and championing the full protection and promotion of human rights for all.”

Contributions from partners and all donations will benefit organizations fighting poverty, inequality, and systemic discrimination, such as Playing for Change Foundation, the United Nations Population Fund, Silkroad, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

~~Published January 22, 2021~~

Written more than 50 years ago, the Bob Dylan classic “The Times They Are A-Changin’” is as relevant today as it was then.

We invite you to enjoy this touching rendition performed by Brandi Carlile along with Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) from our recent event, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the UN, Peace Through Music.

Change is inevitable.

It’s up to us to create change that uplifts, change that betters ourselves and humankind, and change that is for the good and for the love of everyone. Let’s stand strong, united in one love, and be the positive change we want to see in the world.
