Goosebumps, Tears and History

January 20, 2021 … it was like no other in my lifetime!! … “Yesterday on the cold wintery step of the Capital with the sun shining brightly we witnessed American democracy being saved. We have our country back, pulled from the precipice it was teetering on only 2 short weeks ago.”

Envisioning The American Dream

Joe Biden Inauguration

The last time Inauguration Day was a day where tears never stopped flowing, goosebumps never let up and a lump rarely left my throat, was 12 years ago when history was made as Barack Obama was sworn in as President.

But unlike January 2009, democracy itself was not hanging in the balance.

Yesterday on the cold wintery step of the Capital with the sun shining brightly we witnessed American democracy being saved. We have our country back, pulled from the precipice it was teetering on only 2 short weeks ago. Now in the very structure that had so recently been invaded and desecrated by an insurrection encouraged by our president,  we were eyewitness to a gathering of men and women who confirmed with words, music, and profound truths that our country will survive. Pulled from the brink, we have been restored.

Simply awesome! … “I live the richness of the earth.” — Clarice Lispector, tr. by Elizabeth Lowe, “The Stream of Life” (Água Viva).

Live & Learn

And I also know a way of life that is soft pride, grace of movement, light and continuous frustration, that has a skill at aloofness that comes from a long and ancient path. Like a tiny sign of revolt an irony light and eccentric. There’s a side of life that’s like drinking coffee on a terrace in winter cold bundled up in wool.

I know a way of life that’s a light shadow unfurled to the wind and flapping lightly on the ground: a life that’s floating shadow, levitation and dreams in broad daylight: I live the richness of the earth.

The 46th!

I watched and loved every minute of it!! … “We did it, folks. He’s gone for good. On November 3, 2020, over 81 million of us told the 45th President of the United States to get the hell out of our house. Today, we welcome the 46th President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden Jr.”

On The Fence Voters

We did it, folks. He’s gone for good. On November 3, 2020, over 81 million of us told the 45th President of the United States to get the hell out of our house. Today, we welcome the 46th President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden Jr.

On the drive home today from my walk with our beloved four-legged buddies, I heard the beautiful voice of Lady Gaga singing our National Anthem emanating from my car radio. I couldn’t hold back anymore. The tears started to flow like a spring waterfall in Oregon. It’s as if a massive weight, an albatross if you will, began to leave my body all at once.

The gravity of the moment will live with me for the rest of my life. I felt similar emotions when the election was formerly called for Biden. But this was different. So much has happened since…

Star Spangled Banner …. “🇺🇸 ‘Amazing Lady Gaga – in Every Way’ 🇺🇸 …. “!!

~~January 21, 2021~~

STAR SPANGLED BANNER MORNING

I’m an ardent Lady Gaga fan. I knew she was going to sing in the Biden Harris Inauguration. As always, she managed to surprise. Her billowing red skirt, her golden dove and her amazing voice.

Inspiring, touching and real.

Do not miss her gesture … ‘and the flag was still here’!!

Watch Lady Gaga Sing the National Anthem at Joe Biden’s Inauguration

Lady Gaga delivered a rendition of the national anthem at Joe Biden’s inauguration that was both respectful, and very Lady Gaga.

Dressed in a tight black long-sleeved shirt embellished a golden dove brooch, and a billowing, bright red dress, Gaga sang into a golden microphone. She drew out the song’s notes, singing with proper, Streisand-esque pronunciation that nonetheless featured many flourishes.

She raised her left fist on the word “proudly,” and gestured with her right hand throughout the song. She brought flourishes on “home of the brave,” and drew out “banner yet wave.” And, as she often does after performances, she was crying gently after she finished.

A Lady Gaga national anthem is not an untested commodity: She won praise for her rendition at the opening of Super Bowl 50 in 2016. Gaga has history with President-elect Biden, too.

After the 2020 race was called for him, she tweeted, “Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and the American people, you just gave the world one of the greatest acts of kindness and bravery humanity has ever seen…

Nothing but love for our new Commander in Chief and the 1ST female VP elected to the White House. Also, way to go PA.”

Letters From Mar-a-Lago

A bit of humor to start the day … “The White House press corp for being intrigued when President Joe Biden told them that Donald Trump did indeed leave him a letter.”

I tweeted out part of this joke yesterday and after several readers said it should be a cartoon, I said, “No.” I don’t like turning my tweets into cartoons. But then, I thought of doing it this way and changed my mind. So sue me. Now my only concern is that another cartoonist will steal my tweet and turn it into his own cartoon. Yes, that’s happened before and a colleague actually confessed to me once that he did exactly that.

There was a big mystery over whether Donald Trump would leave a letter in the Resolute Desk for his predecessor, President Joe Biden. It’s a tradition for the outgoing president to leave a letter for the incoming president. Usually, these letters are always positive, wishing luck and professing faith in the abilities of the new president.

And, it was very fair to question if Donald Trump would continue this…
