Playing for Change …. “💞🎼 ‘By the Sea’ by Mel Semé 🎼💞 …. “!!

~~May 14, 2021~~

I started folowing ‘Playing for Change’ a few years ago. I was introduced to their concept by a awesome blogger friend. I believe the work they do and the way they present music from around the world is commendable and amazing.

I just found this new song today.

I hope you enjoy it!!

Born in Camagüey, Cuba, to Haitian parents, Mel Semé began his musical career in the Baptist church of his town hand in hand with his brothers and in the company of older musicians who performed a kind of Latin gospel influenced by the missionaries who came often to Cuba from the southern United States.

He began composing at an early age and learning multiple instruments among which the guitar, piano, and drums stood out.

After graduating from the Havana University of Music and being part of the Havana Symphony Orchestra and the Camagüey Symphony Orchestra, he lived in Lichtenstein and Switzerland where he taught percussion and interpretation courses.

He later toured with different musical projects such as Jane Bunnet, David Virelles, and Master Fatman throughout Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, and Denmark. It was in Denmark where he lived for a time and extended his musical knowledge sharing the stage with musicians from the Scandinavian scene.

He settled in Barcelona in 2003.

We’re excited to share this video of Mel Semé performing his original song, “By the Sea,” live outside at the Plaça del Rei in Barcelona. This song was the first song written by David Block and Mel Semé, aka SEMES, the very first day they met in Barcelona in 2017 and was released as their first single.

Let this beautiful melody wash away your worries and leave them by the sea.

This is me!! Doesn’t matter where I am, I’m a prou ‘Boricua‘. My mind, my heart, my soul is in my country – Puerto Rico!!

Boricua en la Luna” is originally a poem by Juan Antonio Corretjer. Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Roy Brown popularized it by adapting it to song.

It was first featured on the album Árboles, from Brown and Cuban singer Silvio Rodríguez and became one of Brown’s most popular songs.

They Walk Among Us …

My ver y dear soul sister couldn’t have said it any better. Hence, I’, using her own words … because the are my very own thoughts too!! … “Some days I wake up and wonder if I dreamed all the lunacy that is part of the United States today. And then I pick up my phone, check the news, and … nope, not a dream, just a horrible reality. And then I wish I could just stay in bed, not ever get up again.”

Filosofa's Word

Some days I wake up and wonder if I dreamed all the lunacy that is part of the United States today.  And then I pick up my phone, check the news, and … nope, not a dream, just a horrible reality.  And then I wish I could just stay in bed, not ever get up again.  I have a feeling that the founders of this nation would be deeply ashamed of some of the people who inhabit it today.  More than a few times I’ve thought perhaps we would have been better off to remain under British rule, for obviously we are not capable of self-governance today.  Just a few examples …

Marge Green, aka Marjorie Taylor Greene, ought to be sent back home to Georgia until she can learn to act as an adult.  She seems to believe that the way to get her point across is to…

GOP Wants You to Think Americans Don’t Want to Work

This is the ‘GQP” … what it always was!! … “The GOP would like you to think we’re a bunch of lazy asses. I beg to differ. We will come back  –  despite little help from them. As expected, several Republican governors from red states are already telling Biden thanks, but no thanks to the additional unemployment relief. They’ve already determined folks in their states do not need it.”

On The Fence Voters

There’s enough uncertainty around these days to drive us all crazy. But there’s one thing you can count on as sure as the rising sun: The GOP’s continued assault on the character of the American people. To hear them tell it, we’re nothing but a bunch of lazy, entitled takers.

In case you haven’t heard, we’re slowly coming out of the worst pandemic in a century. Our lives have been turned upside down in every which way imaginable. Lives were lost, people got sick, kids couldn’t go to school. On and on I could go. The year 2020 will go down in infamy as one of the worst on record.

And the economy was, of course, one of the biggest losers as far as how the pandemic played out. We lost 20 million jobs during the peak of the lockdowns back in April of last year. Slowly but surely, we’re…

Where’s The Civility?

In total agreement … otherwise, it will be confirmed that none have ANY credibility!! … “Something heeds to be done to return some form of civility to the governing bodies!”

In Saner Thought

Most career politicians in my opinion are sleazy actors addicted to power and high dollar donors….not the country.

Since the 1990s the Congress has become a major circus….the dignified debate and disagreements have become a a bad opera with antics and infantile situations….like the idiot that delivered pizza to a classified briefing….and then there is the newest clown on the Right, Taylor-Greene.

Since she lost her committees she has worked to find ways to get on camera and her newest skit is just simply undignified pursuit…..

Two of the most high-profile members of the House—one on the left, the other on the right—are the focus of a flurry of news coverage on Thursday. The headlines came after GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia confronted New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the latter was leaving the House chamber. Coverage:

  • The Washington Post reports that Greene shouted, “Hey Alexandria” twice…

Gas, Mask, Vax, Cheesecake

This is AMERICA, the great … “Because of these mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, sister-marrying anti-vaxxers, we can’t have nice things.” – read on!!

We have reached a milestone and a new independence by the new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control. Earlier in the week, we were told by our president, Joe Biden, that we don’t have to wear face masks outdoors anymore. Now, you don’t have to wear face masks indoors either, but there’s a catch. You have to be vaccinated.

If you have been vaccinated, it doesn’t matter if everyone else in the room are mouth-breathing knuckle-dragging anti-vax hysteria-spreading troglodytes. You can still go without a mask. The odds of you catching Covid19 from the morons are very slim…unless you’re a New York Yankee.

But, because of those morons, we’re probably going to have to keep our masks on. Why? Because they’re fuckers and fuckers are always being fuckers. Everyone is supposed to be honest about whether or not they’re vaccinated. We’re using the honor system with fuckers who have…

Friday Fun Fact, #4 …. “🇵🇷 ‘It’s a Puerto Rican Thing’ 🇵🇷 …. “!!

~~May 14, 2021~~

Breadfruit, (Artocarpus altilis), tree of the mulberry family (Moraceae) and its large fruits are a staple food of the South Pacific and other tropical areas.

It’s also a staple of the Puerto Rican diet … one of my faves!

In Puerto Rico, you call your best friends ‘panas‘. Breadfruit in Spanish is ‘panas’.

So, “greetings to my best friends’!!
