#BoricuaPride … “Miranda-Rodriguez is the creator of La Borinqueña, an original superhero character who made her comic book debut in late 2016. She was created as a direct response to the struggles Puerto Ricans were facing after the devastation that Hurricane Maria left behind and the lack of government support.

Now, Miranda-Rodriguez is releasing the long-awaited third issue of the independently published graphic novel series La Borinqueña #3. He introduces readers to a new superhero team known as The Nitainos, and a new Chinese-Dominican character, Luz.”

I have a friend, let’s call him Mr. Jingle Balls. A few months ago I bumped into Mr. Jingle Balls and his girlfriend in a bar and we decided to sit at a table together and catch up. It had been a while since I’d seen either one of them. We got around to talking about the vaccine for the coronavirus. Ms. Jingle Balls told me she had gotten the vaccine and was glad she did but then went over her entire experience with it because she’s neurotic. Mr. Jingle Balls told me he had not gotten the vaccine and he wouldn’t. I was intrigued.

I didn’t want to debate Mr. Jingle Balls over a beer in a bar but I did want to know why he refuses to get vaccinated. I told him I wasn’t challenging him or trying to debate, but I just wanted to know why. Talking…

Still Not Trump

Thoughts? … “While you can blame Trump, you can’t look at this and say Biden has done a good job with it. But, you can say, “At least he’s not Trump.” Right?”

When I heard that President Joe Biden was going to deliver more remarks last Friday on Afghanistan, my first thought was, “Stop.”

President Biden usually has a speech every day. Sometimes he does two. I think it might be a bit much in absence of press conferences, which he does occasionally. But he has done a good job showing he is on top of the issues and knows what he’s doing…until Afghanistan.

After Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, Biden took a day…and another before addressing the nation. He had to figure out what to say to the nation after his prediction, that the Taliban wouldn’t overrun the government, was proven wrong in 11 days. He never addressed that.

President Biden went from saying the Taliban won’t fail to it…

…his long neck folded

Wow … the blue heron!! … “Jane Hirshfield, “Hope and Love” from “The Lives of the Heart: Poems“.

Live & Learn

All winter
the blue heron
slept among the horses.
I do not know
the custom of herons,
do not know
if the solitary habit
is their way,
or if he listened for
some missing one—
not knowing even
that was what he did—
in the blowing
sounds in the dark,
I know that
hope is the hardest
love we carry.
He slept
with his long neck
folded, like a letter
put away.
