GOP Now Stands for Gullible, Obtuse, Pitiless

YEP!! Totally sickening!! … “Tacky, tasteless, tawdry, crude, heartless, callous, degenerate, amoral. Ah, yes, all adjectives describing the Trumpist-controlled Republican Party, the GOP.”

On The Fence Voters

Our good friend Jerry over at Grumpy’s Grumblings has another post out. I’ve included a link at the end to continue reading on his site. Thanks Jerry!

For years I joked that our nation could solve our twin troubles of energy shortages and air pollution by making all our roads go downhill. Anytime I suggested my solution, people responded with that “Surely you aren’t serious” look. I’d then smile and shrug my shoulders, implying that I knew the suggestion was silly. We all knew it was a ridiculously simple—and unworkable—concept. And that’s what made it at least a little humorous.

I had to wonder—momentarily—if they were joking.

So, with GOP leaders across the nation now openly and with straight faces declaring that the solution to our nation’s epidemic of mass murders at public places is to eliminate all but one entrance to all such buildings, I had to wonder—momentarily—if they…

Trumpin’ the Jubilee

Hey! Gotta celebrate … “Congratulations to the Queen on her 70 years as monarch. And congratulations to us for ending our fascist monarchy at four.”

It’s the Queen’s 70th year as the monarch of the United Kingdom. She is also the monarch and head of state of 14 Commonwealth realms, such as Canada, Jamaica, Belize, New Zealand, etc. Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning monarch in English history. Queen Victoria is second with a 63-year reign from 1837 to 1901. We’ll never see a British monarch with a reign this long again, at least not in our lifetimes…probably.

The United Kingdom is a Constitutional monarchy, as most of the monarch’s functions are ceremonial, diplomatic, and representational. The Queen does appoint the Prime Minister and summons, prorogue, and dissolves Parliament. These duties are non-partisan and mostly ceremonial.

Prime Minister Harold Wilson (The Beatles mentioned him in “Tax Man”) requested Queen Elizabeth to dissolve Parliament in 1974 when he couldn’t form a coalition among the several parties to form a government (they are not simply a two-party…

Walking. For A Thousand Years.

Simply beyond amazing! … “It’s 5:01 a.m., twilight (aka near dark), and I notice the tracks. Tracks running from the shoreline to the top of beach. WTH is that? I walk to the top, wary of what I’ll find; God knows, it could be a badger from New Hampshire that lost its way – hiding behind the bushes waiting for its next victim.”

Live & Learn

Here we go again. Daybreak walk at Cove Island Park. 760 consecutive (almost) days. Like in a row.

The narrator @ Audible is pumping “Independent People” into my head, a novel that won the 1955 Nobel Prize for Halldór Laxness. Not sure what’s up with my fixation on Iceland and Icelanders: Laxness, Ólafur Arnalds, Of Monsters and Men. Something going on here… Something.

So, I’m walking, and listening to Laxness…

Had the brook lost its charm, then? No, far from it. Clear and joyful it flowed over the shining sand and pebbles, between its banks white with withered grass, its joy eternally new every spring for a thousand years; and it told little stories, in its own little tongue, its own little inflections, while the boy sat on the bank and listened for a thousand years. The boy and eternity, two friends, the sky…
