HURRICANE IAN

Here I sit at home … with a very familiar sinking feeling in my ‘solar plexus’. I’ve seen this song played plenty times before.

Did Jason Momoa get a head tattoo?

If Jason Momoa didn’t already shock fans earlier this month by chopping off his signature locks, now he’s showing off his head tattoo!

The 43-year-old “Dune” actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to show off his new ink, which is an intricate tribal tattoo on the side of his head.

Jason opened up to a fan about the tattoo in question during a Q&A, saying, “It’s our aumakua, my family crest, it’s our guardian.”

He went on to explain that “it’s supposed to take the darkness out of your heart and bring the light in, but we’re still working on that.

“Shavin’ off the hair… Doing it for single-use plastics,” he said in the video. While getting his hair cut, the “Aquaman” star urged his fans to eliminate single-use plastics from their lives.

“I’m tired of using plastic bottles, we gotta stop, plastic forks, all that s—, goes into our land, goes into our ocean. I’m here in Hawaii right now, and just seeing things in our ocean, it’s just so sad,” he added.

Monday Morning Wake-Up Call. (If you think your commute is too long…)

Long commute!! … “The godwit’s ordeal is so extreme that, as one recent paper put it, it challenges “underlying assumptions of bird physiology.”

Live & Learn

If you think your commute is too long, be glad you’re not a godwit. Each year around this time, tens of thousands of bar-tailed godwits migrate from Alaska to New Zealand and Australia. The 7,000-mile journey — the longest nonstop migration of any land bird — is completed in eight to 10 days of continuous flapping without stopping to eat, drink or rest.

The godwit’s ordeal is so extreme that, as one recent paper put it, it challenges “underlying assumptions of bird physiology.” Before the bird takes off, its organs shrink, its pectoral muscles grow, and it gobbles up insects, worms and mollusks to store fat for the long journey. One scientist called the godwits “obese super athletes.”
