I had a very busy day today. I attempted to make the business meeting for the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists this morning at 9 a.m. which was at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. After being taken to a Columbus Metropolitan Library by an Uber, I discovered they have more than one.

A very dear friend of mine is sounding the alarm about possible effects to an important segment of our local LGBTQ community.
In this instance, as a local talent, Leigh explains how the current political climate in FloriDUH, may have serious consequences in some of our friends’ and citizens’ lives.

LOCAL BUSINESSMAN/ENTERTAINER WARNS OTHERS NOT TO “FALL INTO THE TRAP” SET BY REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP
COLLEGE PARK, FL— Local business owner, entertainer, and comedian Martin “Leigh Shannon” Fugate is concerned about the drag community being portrayed in a negative light.
Leigh says that right-wing politicians are seeking to demonize the drag community as well as the LGBTQ community as a whole, by creating and circulating false images of drag queens performing in a non stage setting and inappropriately dancing in front of children.
Leigh states that he personally has made the decision to pull back on some of his own comedic physical actions in his shows.
“There are right-wing politicians attempting to false portraying the drag community as clowns and strippers in order to encourage their homophobic views,” Leigh explains.
“As a business owner, entertainer, and former candidate for public office, I am very concerned about the false image that is being perpetuated.”
Leigh is encouraging entertainers to be more cautious and aware of where they are performing. While he understands that performers have to work, he wants to encourage entertainers to be selective about their performance venues. Performing at an indoor venue on a stage, proper dressing areas, with proper lighting, music, air conditioning and the proper ambience is always ideal.
“As ‘drag queens,’ we should not fall into the trap that these politicians are setting. We need to not cheapen our craft so that politicians can demonize our art and use it for political purposes.” Leigh believes that with the midterms elections coming up, this is more important than ever.
Leigh is also encouraging local restaurants and eateries to cherish and respect their entertainment by allowing them to perform for good pay and wants them to have the ability to perform in an appropriate venue. Since the closing of Orlando’s Parliament House, legitimate drag venues are few and far between.
The Central Florida drag community has had to book gigs at outdoor eateries, on patios, and other more public locations.
Our local drag queens deserve to perform at venues with a stage, proper lighting, air conditioning and other conditions the most entertainers are used to.
Leigh encourages both the performers and the venues to stop and think about how some of these more public performances can arguably cheapen the art of drag, while also possibly putting ammunition right into the hands of the right-wing politicians who are working to ban drag shows entirely.
“I am just concerned that some female impersonators may be giving a gift to the politicians without realizing it. I want proper working conditions for the female impersonators to work in their true artistic form.
We can’t allow them to make us the Ronald McDonald of the business- who, by the way, was also “fired” due to negative public perception!”
With elections right around the corner, Leigh is encouraging others to vote Democratic down the ticket.
LGBTQ+ rights are on the line this election, as well as women’s rights.
“If ever there was a time to vote and get the vote out, it is now.” Leigh says.
“The fire alarm is getting louder and louder.”

Remember the days when the Lincoln Project was the opposition to the Trump GOP….a bunch of disillusions of Trump made GOP strategists run for the hills and start a campaign to defeat Trump and his minions.
How have they done so far?
Dems were excited to have some real GOP in opposition to the rising tide of fascists in the Trump circle.
When the group formed the Lincoln Project I said then that we should not get too excited for if the succeed in ridding DC of the Trump influence they would then turn their ire on the Dems.
