POWER BLACKOUTS
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico.
As far as electrical power generation and maintenance is concerned, back in the day, the “AEE” – Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica – was in charge of the electrical grid.
It was always like that until Hurricane María destroyed an old, weak electrical infrastructure of an essential agency. Since then, the government hasn’t been able to adequately lead in the repair, restoration and administration of energy to the many island citizens.
Bianca Graulau explains the current situation so very well. Her presentation is in Spanish but there are subtitles.
Take a look!

After the most recent hurricane, some Puerto Ricans went a month without power. The government is about to enter into a 15-year contract with the company responsible for re-energizing the country after Fiona.
Luma Energy is a U.S.-Canadian company that has taken over the responsibility of distributing energy to Puerto Ricans, but now outages last longer.
El gobierno de Puerto Rico está a punto de entrar en un contrato de 15 años con la compañía Luma Energy.
¿Qué significa eso para el país?
