put the blame on the greedy owners

This is the question and the obvious anwer — jeez!! … “The obvious question is: Why in hell won’t railroad companies give their workers sick leave? The obvious answer is: Greed.”

gregfallis.com

Just a quick post to point out the obvious thing that is somehow being completely overlooked. It’s not the railroad workers who are threatening to destroy the US economy, it’s the railroad OWNERS.

Have you ever been sick? Almost certainly yes. Did you know in advance you were going to be sick? Maybe, but usually not. Did you ever miss work because you were sick? Probably. Should you be forced to go to work when you’re sick? Hell no.

Most employers allow their workers a certain number of days in which they can call in sick. Most employers would rather you stay home when you’re sick rather than come to work and either infect other workers or spend the day shuffling between your work and the toilet.

Right now, railroad workers don’t get any sick days. None. Zero. They’re allowed to take vacation days if they’re sick BUT they…

Meghan Was Right

#RacistRoyalFamily … and then this happened: “It was at a reception in Bucking Palance hosted by Queen Consort Camilla for campaigners who are working to end violence against women and girls where Lady Susan messed up. This was an event to stop abuse againts women, and Lady Susan abused one of the guest, Ngozi Fulani, a Black Briton and the chief executive of the domestic-abuse charity Sistah Space.”

Buckingham Palace has been in damage control ever since Harry and Meghan fled to the United States and accusing the royal family of racism. According to the couple, one member of the royal family questioned what color their baby would be. Spoiler alert: It’s baby colored.

The royals are slow to adapt which was evidenced this week when Prince William’s godmother and royal courtier interrogated a Black British charity chief at a palace charity event, asking her repeatedly, “Where are you from?”. The answer, “England,” apparently wasn’t satisfactory.

Susan Hussey was “Number One Head Girl” in Buckingham Palace, serving as “Woman of the Bedchamber” meaning she was the Queen’s right-hand woman. After the Queen’s death, King Charles moved her to work for him as an “honorary” lady and to assist with palace functions. Her new duties included helping smooth the way at events, being nice to guests, and making them…

Nancy’s Replacement

Making history … “52-year-old Hakeem Jeffries, a representative whose district includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens, became the party’s new leader in the House. And if you think 52 is old, get off my blog. Not only is he the first black person to lead any party in Congress, but he’s also the first born after World War II. Jeffries’ next goal is to be Speaker in the next two years.”

Nancy Pelosi stepped down from being the leader of House Democrats citing it’s time for younger leadership, and she wasn’t kidding. Yesterday, 52-year-old Hakeem Jeffries, a representative whose district includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens, became the party’s new leader in the House. And if you think 52 is old, get off my blog. Not only is he the first black person to lead any party in Congress, but he’s also the first born after World War II. Jeffries’ next goal is to be Speaker in the next two years.

There was a lot of speculation with Pelosi stepping down that Republicans will struggle to find a booger monster, a new person to vilify, a new person to gaslight and scare their base with. I wasn’t that worried.

Republicans have been using Pelosi as campaign fodder for over two decades, but why should they stop now just because she’s stepping…

The Greatest

WOW!! … it’s simply awesome!! … “What this short film expresses so clearly is that these accessibility feature don’t merely allow people with serious disabilities to use Apple devices, but to thrive with them.” — John Gruber, ‘The Greatest – Short Film From Apple Celebrating Accessibility Features‘ (Thursday, December 1, 2022).

Live & Learn

People without arms using touchscreen phones. A deaf mother whose watch lets her know that her baby is crying. A blind man whose phone tells him not just that a door is in front of him, but what it says on the door. These are the days of miracles and wonders.

Steven Aquino, writing at Forbes:

Of course Apple wants you to use their products, but so too does Amazon and Google and Microsoft and others. There exists a deeper message: the point is not whether Apple is subliminally advertising to people; the salient point is Apple is overtly advertising a disabled person’s basic humanity.

What this short film expresses so clearly is that these accessibility feature don’t merely allow people with serious disabilities to use Apple devices, but to thrive with them.

DeSantis Is No ‘Golden Boy’

Very interesting read .. DeathSantis is a FIDIOT!! I know, I like in FloriDUH!! … “But make no mistake … DeSantis is not worthy, perhaps no more so than the former guy.”

Filosofa's Word

It seems that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is on the path to becoming the Republican Party’s next ‘golden boy’, now that the former guy has perhaps placed the final straw on the camel’s back with multiple losses in the mid-terms and then his meeting with the ignoble white supremacist Nazi, Nick Fuentes.  But make no mistake … DeSantis is not worthy, perhaps no more so than the former guy.  One of my favourite columnists, Frank Bruni, tells us why.

He’ll be sold as a paragon of reason. Don’t buy it.

Elon Musk is a geyser of gibberish, so it’s important not to make too much of anything he says. But a recent Twitter thread of his deserved the attention it got, if not for the specific detail on which most journalists focused.

They led with Musk’s statement that he would support a Ron…
