MAN vs EARTH

In his latest video, “Man vs. Earth” spoken word artist Prince Ea opens by saying,

“Fun fact:

In “Man vs. Earth,” spoken word artist Prince Ea opens by saying, “Fun fact: Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old, mankind, about 140,000 years old. Let me put that in perspective. If you condense the Earth’s lifespan into 24 hours—that’s one full day—then we have been here for, drum roll please, three seconds.” Only by coming together, he says, can we make it to the proverbial fourth second.

Prince Ea objects to us calling ourselves homo sapiens, or “wise man” because, though we may be intelligent, we lack wisdom. “While intelligence speaks, wisdom listens,” he says. “And we willingly covered our ears to Mother Nature’s screams and closed our eyes to all of her help wanted signs.

New Prince Ea video: Man vs Earth

Natalie Prolman on Nov. 24, 2015

Last Earth Day, activist and spoken word artist Prince Ea brought us the powerful and thought-provoking video Dear Future Generations: Sorry. With over 96 million views on Facebook to date, Prince Ea achieved something pretty incredible for the environmental community.

He clearly communicated the urgency of protecting our planet and inspired millions to understand the importance of mitigating climate change and taking action to stop deforestation.

He was able to reach the hearts of the generation to whom this issue matters to most: young people. And reminded us all that the power of change is in OUR hands!

I had the honor of sitting down with Prince Ea in London last week to discuss his newest video in support of the Stand For Trees campaign.

Natalie

“What was your inspiration for doing a second Stand For Trees video?”

Prince Ea

“I felt like there was more to say. The story was unfinished, I had more to get out there and in a different way. When I was brainstorming the original concept of writing a letter to future generations I came up with other dynamic ideas which I thought could be just as compelling. One of which was the 3 seconds theme, which I use in this one. This particular video is coming from an anthropological perspective (what I studied in school), looking at us as a species and the ramifications of our existence.”

Natalie

“What is the message you’re sending to the world?”

Prince Ea

“The message is: An inner revolution needs to take place. Global warming, climate change, animal agriculture, pollution, pesticides … all of these things are symptoms. They are byproducts of our inner reflection and how we see the world, how we see each other and how we see the environment. We’re very separated and divided, but that is not the truth about reality.

That is the truth about our socially constructed reality. The main message is to find the truth and see that we are connected to all beings both great and small. I always end with a message of hope, I believe that we can and will turn it all around. However, I don’t think the goal is to save the world, but to reshape it.

Natalie

“Why do you think young people are such a critical audience for this message?”

Prince Ea

“I think because it’s really our future that’s at stake. We are the first generation to really see the impact of climate change and the last one who will be able to do something about it. So it’s definitely crucial that young people will become more aware. We have an opportunity to really evolve the human species into a new direction. A totally new direction from our past. One with mindfulness and love and care and understanding. No longer a business as usual approach.”

LIL BUB BRINGS .. CHRISTMAS IS HERE

BUB is a very special one of a kind critter.

More specifically, she is the most amazing cat on the planet.

In July of 2011, she was discovered as the runt of a healthy feral litter in a tool shed in rural Indiana at only a few weeks old. She was taken in as a rescue when it was clear that she would require special care. Since then BUB has become one of the most famous cats on planet.

She is a published author, a talk show host, the star of an award winning documentary, and has helped raise over $200,000 for animals in need.

Shortly after turning one year old, BUB was diagnosed with an exceptionally rare bone condition called osteopetrosis.

~IN HER OWN WORDS~

IOTD” is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”

Google Doodle celebrates ‘Little House’ author Laura Ingalls Wilder’s 148th birthday

TODAY Google celebrates the 148th birthday of ‘Little House on the Prairie‘ author Laura Ingalls Wilder, with a doodle on its homepage to commemorate the occasion.

By JOSHUA FORD

On February 7, 1867, Laura was born in a log cabin near Pepin, Wisconsin to parents Charles and Caroline – she was one of five children which later became four after the death of her younger brother at just nine months.

Growing up, Laura and her pioneer family would continuously move from one Midwestern town to the next, moving from Wisconsin to Walnut Grove, Minnesota in 1874 – this became the setting of the Little House on the Prairie television show from 1974 – 1982, a show based on Laura Wilder’s own life.

Having moved so often, Laura and her siblings would teach themselves and each other attending local schools where and when they could.

Laura decided to become a teacher, and in 1882, passed the test to obtain her teaching certificate, she then signed on to teach 12 miles from her parents’ home at just 15.

Family friend Almanzo Wilder was often sent to pick Laura up and bring her home for weekend visits, over the course of their rides home – the two fell in love and were married on August 25, 1885 in South Dakota.

Laura later quit teaching to raise children and help Almanzo work on the firm. She gave birth to her daughter Rose the year after she and Almanzo were married, she gave birth to a son three years later in 1889, only to have him pass away tragically within a month of his birth.

Soon after this, Almanzo contracted diphtheria and was partially paralyzed, the Wilders’ home was burned to the ground in 1890.

The Wilders’ bought a 200-acre farm in 1894 in Missouri, which later became known as Rocky Ridge Farm, it was here the Wilders built a farmhouse, raised livestock, and did all of their own farm work.

The Wilder’s daughter Rose grew up to become a reporter for the San Francisco Bulletin in the 1910s, she encouraged her mother to write about her childhood.

Laura’s first attempt at her autobiography ‘Pioneer Girl‘ was rejected by publishers, however, she went on to publish Little House in the Big Woods in 1932 – a recant on her life in Pepin, Wisconsin and the memorable places she’d lived, Wilder completed the last book in the ‘Little House‘ series in 1943 at the age of 76.

Laura’s husband Almanzo died in 1949, she stayed at their home on Rocky Ridge before dying eight years later on February 10, 1957.

Following the death of her mother, Rose edited and published several posthumous works based on her mother’s diary and incomplete manuscripts.
