HOW EASY DO OPINIONS CHANGE … SHORT TERM MEMORY ABSENT

Since I started the day with a “donald” post, might as well end it with the same topic.

We are all well aware of the gaffe about letting the “Muslim in the White House” comment go, etc.

Comments, opinions, tweets, memes …. have exploded in the web.

See how easy, just in two days, his love of “Muslims” is a fact.

So much so that he wouldn’t mind having one in “his Cabinet”.

Enjoy the turn of the tide.

Trump doesn’t challenge anti-Muslim questioner at event

Donald Trump came under fire Friday morning, September 18, 2015, for his handling of a question at a town hall about when the U.S. can “get rid” of Muslims, for failing to take issue with that premise and an assertion that President Barack Obama is Muslim.

Trump to CNN: ‘I love the Muslims’

Donald Trump on Saturday, September 19, 2015,  responded to a question from CNN about whether Muslims pose a danger to the country, saying:

“I love the Muslims. I think they’re great people.”

The Republican presidential front-runner made the comment after addressing high school students here at their homecoming Saturday night.

During a question-and-answer session with students, Trump was unable to avoid being asked about the latest political controversy dogging his campaign: his decision not to correct a supporter this week who called President Barack Obama a Muslim.

One student told Trump that she considered Muslim-Americans to be an important segment of the country. They asked whether the billionaire businessman would consider putting a Muslim in his Cabinet or on his ticket.

“Oh, absolutely,” Trump responded. “No problem with that.”

Supreme Court Rejects Challenge To The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Thursday, June 25, upheld the nationwide tax subsidies underpinning President Barack Obama‘s health care overhaul, rejecting a major challenge to the landmark law in a ruling that preserves health insurance for millions of Americans.

In a 6-3 decision, a decisive victory for President Obama, the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the broad reach of the new healthcare law, ruling the government may continue to provide tax subsidies for low- and middle-income people who buy insurance nationwide, even in states that did not create an official insurance exchange of their own.

The conservative challenge to the law has been denied. It could have left more than 6 million Americans scrambling to pay for their coverage. It  has now been decided that what has become known as Obamacare, will stand.

The ruling is a crucial win for the Democratic White House, now that Republicans control the House and Senate. Had the high court ruled for the conservative challengers, it would have put the fate of the law in the hands of GOP leaders on Capitol Hill. The outcome was the second major victory for Obama in politically charged Supreme Court tests of his most significant domestic achievement. And it came the same day the court gave him an unexpected victory by preserving a key tool the administration uses to fight housing bias.

Born and raised by underpaid public school teachers in Sanford, Fla., Andy Marlette graduated from the University of Florida and became staff editorial cartoonist at the Pensacola News Journal in 2007.

Marlette received a priceless editorial cartoon education while living with his uncle and Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette in Hillsborough, N.C.

Doug’s tragic death in July of 2007 made evermore poignant the elder Marlette’s fierce and faithful devotion to the art form of editorial cartooning as a cornerstone of American free speech. With this in mind, Andy works daily to learn and uphold the disciplines and values passed on to him by his late uncle.

Something to think about …. “Rick Scott’s Veto Pen”!!

ScVeto

~~June 25, 2015~~

Gov. Scott wields his veto pen for political payback

BY PAULA DOCKERY

Just four days after the Florida Legislature passed the $78.7 billion state budget, Gov. Rick Scott, with no advanced notice, fanfare or public appearance quietly signed the budget behind closed doors. He didn’t confer with his partners in the process — fellow Cabinet members, legislative leaders and senators and representatives. Even his lieutenant governor was left in the dark.

Nor did he communicate with those who found themselves on the receiving end of his veto pen. Mayors, commissioners, university presidents and healthcare administrators were among those learning their fate online, through the news media or by word of mouth.

Scott vetoed $461 million of legislative spending, a personal record, or less than one percent of the budget.

There was mixed reaction to Scott’s vetoes and to the odd manner in which he performed what is arguably the governor’s most significant responsibility. Individual legislators were surprised to learn that he had completed the job without reaching out to them, as most governors traditionally do.

Scott deserves some criticism for the lack of public discourse, stakeholder involvement and transparency. Scott has — during past sessions — conferred with legislators on their budget priorities. But this session and special session were particularly acrimonious, with the governor siding with one chamber over the other.

Thoughts for today, #181 …. “Terrorists and their flags”!!

Flags

~~June 22, 2015~~

MEANING OF A FLAG

A flag is a piece of fabric (most often rectangular or quadrilateral) with a distinctive design that is used as a symbol, as a signaling device, or as decoration.

The first flags were used to assist military co-ordination on battlefields, and flags have since evolved into a general tool for rudimentary signalling and identification, especially in environments where communication is similarly challenging (such as the maritime environment where semaphore is used).

National flags are potent patriotic symbols with varied wide-ranging interpretations, often including strong military associations due to their original and ongoing military uses. Flags are also used in messaging, advertising, or for other decorative purposes.

The study of flags is known as vexillology, from the Latin word vexillum, meaning flag or banner.
