NAPCAN …. Children see, children do!!

Children See, Children Do

This Video Will Make You Rethink How You Act Around Others

With the way most of us live our lives these days — giving zero f*cks — we often forget that there are young ones around watching.

I’m not saying that everyone should be a perfect role model in life, but if you’re responsible for a child, then you should act like an adult and strive to set a good example.

While our kids will likely end up just like us, there’s no reason you should be smoking, drinking or fighting in front of them.

This quick, 60 second PSA makes all of us think about our immoral behavior and puts into perspective what we’re really doing. Turn down for what? Turn down for the children.

NAPCAN’s latest campaign for a Child Friendly Australia

NAPCAN, Australia’s National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, launched a thought-provoking television/cinema campaign this year with “Children See, Children Do”. The 90 second spot features children following adults, mimicking their habits. At first the pattern appears to be innocuous, talking on a mobile phone while walking through a city square, making a call on a public telephone, waiting behind the yellow line in a railway station. The behavior becomes more insidious with a girl copying a woman’s smoking habits on an escalator. A boy follows as a grown man carelessly knocks a struggling mother’s bag off her shoulder. We see examples of litter, drunken behaviour, road rage, racism and cruelty to animals. A woman yells at her baby, accompanied by her older daughter. A man is joined by his son as he verbally and physically abuses his wife.

Thoughts for today …. #35!!

~~November 17, 2014~~

Befitting thought for today … World Peace Day

Conflicts, wars, disagreements, invasions are happening all over the world as you read this. Major super powers are involved in many of these. “Boots in the ground” has become a very loose term. Some of these wars were winding down, troops we recalled … it seems the next step is inevitable. Troops will be deployed while the “master puppets” sit behind the desks, computer screens and situation rooms sending these human beings to do their bidding.

The expression “boots on the ground” has an extended military-jargon history. It certainly dates back at least to British officer Robert Grainger Ker Thompson, strategist of the British counter-insurgency efforts against the Malayan National Liberation Army during the Malayan Emergency, 1948-1960.

The term is also associated with General William Westmoreland and the United States’ intervention in Vietnam, particularly the large force increase from 1965-1968.

The term is used to convey the belief that military success can only be achieved through the direct physical presence of troops in a conflict area. As terminology, it was coined to concisely express a counter-view against the position that other means, such as aerial bombardment (as used both by Germany and the Allies in World War II, and massively by the United States in Vietnam), economic incentives, or satellite intelligence could achieve victory. The term is particularly applied currently (2010) to counter-insurgency operations.

Thoughts for today …. #17!!

~~November 8, 2014~~

Koalas eat leaves, with eucalyptus being the most prominent staple in their diet. Koalas have very strong jaws, allowing them to chew tough, fibrous leaves. Eucalyptus leaves are very low in nutrition, and they contain a toxin that is filtered out through the digestive system. Koalas use their keen sense of smell to differentiate between leave types, and determine how much of the toxin they contain.

A baby koala, or a joey as it is called, nurses on milk while it lives in its mother’s pouch for around six months. After emerging from the pouch, the joey lives on its mother’s back for roughly six more months, subsisting on both milk and eucalyptus leaves. After approximately one year, the joey is weaned off of milk.

Koalas only eat 50 species of eucalyptus, out of the 700 in Australia. Their sharp claws and strong limbs allow them to climb tree trunks. Koalas have tails with thick padding, which helps them to sit in trees for hours at a time. They have four fingers and an opposable thumb on each hand for gripping the branches. They tend to be solitary creatures, and males mark their territory by rubbing a scent gland against trees.

IOTD …. “Image of the Day”, #67!!

~~November 7, 2014~~

“Just having a stretch …. don’t mind me.”

@shelleys_travels took this photo of a cheeky Rainbow Lorikeet, and as you can see it’s very clear where these colorful birds got their name from!

These unmistakable birds can be found in coastal regions across northern and eastern Australia.

A dear blogger friend taught me about this concept.

You can find Michelle here:

~In her own words~

IOTD” is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”

Natalie …. the piano player from Melbourne, Australia!!

~~November 5, 2014~~

You’d Never Notice This Old Woman On The Street, But Hearing Her Play Is Magical

80-year-old Natalie Trayling has been been soothing the weary hearts and souls of Melbourne with her piano playing for years now.

Once homeless, Natalie’s life has been marked by tragedy, including the deaths of two daughters, a son’s battle with depression, and a scholarship to London’s Royal Academy of Music that she had to turn down at 15 because her family didn’t have the money, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

She now plays on the streets of Melbourne, chauffeured by her son Matthew, who captured this amazing performance of a piece she wrote when she was just 13.

Untitled original piece

Matthew Trayling

This musical piece was composed between the age of 13 and 14 and finished some years later. Another insight into the mind of this musical genius. Enjoy. I made a comment 12 days ago after observing the dramatically increasing views on YouTube of this video I filmed an uploaded of Natalie (my mum) that reaching 100,000 views would be a wonderful gift for her 80th Birthday being tomorrow. Well  …. it seems at this stage (884,272 views) that it might just make “ONE MILLION” at some stage during the day. This is not just phenomenal.. It’s rightly earned by her. The world is listening, and not just listening to an old lady playing piano on the street, but listening to musical genius.

(This morning when I checked: 2,412,612 YouTube views)

~~October 21, 2014~~

Frostie the Snow Goat dies just a week after using all his legs for the first time
Frostie has struggled to survive since being born with a hind leg infection he got from his umbilical cord.
His autopsy showed his spinal column was riddled with abscesses that were preventing his stomach from functioning normally, causing severe bloating.
Frostie had just turned two months old.

Frostie, the two-month-old snow goat whose battle for survival won him millions of fans around the world, died on Monday, only about a week after he was able to walk for the first time.

Edgar’s Mission, a not-for-profit sanctuary for rescued farm animals outside of Melbourne, announced the news on its Facebook page today.

An autopsy revealed that Frostie’s spinal column was riddled with abscesses, with one so large that it was pressing on his small rumen, preventing the stomach from functioning properly and leading to bloating.

At the end of the day …. “We need to remove our borders”!!

~~September 2, 2014~~

There is so much division. There is so much conflict.

Our world, the only place we have to live in as one human race, is divided by so many borders. Borders which, at a distance, can’t be seen. Differences which are man-made. We come from the same Source. The similarities are divine, the differences are created and assigned by humans.

We ALL are ONE!!

“From A Distance”

From a distance the world looks blue and green,
and the snow-capped mountains white.
From a distance the ocean meets the stream,
and the eagle takes to flight.

From a distance, there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
It’s the voice of hope, it’s the voice of peace,
it’s the voice of every man.

From a distance we all have enough,
and no one is in need.
And there are no guns, no bombs, and no disease,
no hungry mouths to feed.

From a distance we are instruments
marching in a common band.
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace.
They’re the songs of every man.
God is watching us. God is watching us.
God is watching us from a distance.

From a distance you look like my friend,
even though we are at war.
From a distance I just cannot comprehend
what all this fighting is for.

From a distance there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
And it’s the hope of hopes, it’s the love of loves,
it’s the heart of every man.

It’s the hope of hopes, it’s the love of loves.
This is the song of every man.
And God is watching us, God is watching us,
God is watching us from a distance.
Oh, God is watching us, God is watching.
God is watching us from a distance.

Women are the Warriors …. our times call for!!

~~August 31, 2014~~

Women are the warriors our times call for

“As it appears in ….. “

Some people make the mistake of thinking women are only gatherers … gardeners … that they can only dig and pick and cultivate and hide.

I tell you that women are the strongest, smartest and most dangerous hunters the world has ever seen. Individually, they may be physically overpowered, but in planning, in vision, in purpose and explosive action, they can’t be beat. Any honest man will admit there is nothing that fills them with awe so much as their partner when she has made up her mind.

She has become an unstoppable, indomitable will. If it’s against him, he’d better start running!

There’s a narrative that women are weak, that they’re vulnerable, that they are somehow less intelligent or capable than a man. Well, they said that about serfs, about slaves, about people from other races. They say it about anyone they want to control.

You see, it’s the storytellers that rule the world.

And we repeat their stories.

It’s time for a new chapter.

It’s time to write a new reality.

It’s time to stand up and tell your story.

You are only vulnerable when you let others define you as vulnerable.

You are only weak if you let them convince you it’s true.

You are only ‘less than’ if you believe it.

Women are warriors. They are the ones who run with wolves, the ones who follow the moon. They are the ones who give life and they are the first story tellers their children will hear.

Women have all the power of humanity. All the power to shape the world.

Are you waiting for permission? Give it to yourself.

Are you waiting for your time? It’s now.

Are you waiting for a sign? Look around.

You are the linch-pin, the tipping of the scales.

The moment you say you’ve had enough. The moment you rise …

Everything changes.

We are in a battle for a future that our children, grandchildren and theirs can grow in, be safe in, be challenged in. Part of it means taking time for yourself, for silence, to breathe and renew. Part of it means to let go for a while. You’ve been carrying heavy burdens.

There will be men who cling desperately to the idea that they have power over you. Outsmart them. Outmaneuver them. Out plan and out-strategize.

There are so many more good men willing to be your allies, willing to be your support, willing to be your partners. We are your sons, after all.

We are in a battle for the soul of the planet.

And you are that soul.

You are the warriors.

And this is your time.

Where the hell is Matt? …. some fun for today!!

~~August 30, 2014~~

I saw a video on Facebook today about a young guy that was dancing all over the world.

I started researching and found all of this fun information. A very dear friend found the video URL for me and I will include it below.

This is one of the main reasons that I enjoy blogging. I learn so many things and l love to share them with you. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.

Where the Hell is Matt?

An Internet phenomenon that features a video of Dancing Matt (Matt Harding) doing a dance “jig” in many different places around the world in 2005. The video garnered popularity on the video sharing site YouTube. There are now five major videos plus two outtakes and several background videos on YouTube. Matt dances alone in the first videos. In 2008 others join with him doing the dance “jig”; in 2010 he does the Diski Dance in South Africa. In 2012 he works with other dancers, sometimes using a local dance or another dance step.

Harding was known by his friends for a particular dance, and while video recording each other in Vietnam in May 2003, his travel companion suggested he add the dance. The videos were uploaded to his website for friends and family to enjoy. After completing a second journey to Africa in 2004, Harding edited together 15 dance scenes, all with him center frame, with the background music “Sweet Lullaby” by “Deep Forest“.

The original song uses samples from a dying Solomon Islands language which was recorded in 1971 by a French ethnomusicologist at the Solomon Islands near Papua New Guinea. The song, “Rorogwela” was sung by a young woman named Afunakwa.

According to the video “Where the Hell is Afunakwa” by Matt Harding, Afunakwa died in 1998.

As of August 2008, Harding is represented by Creative Artists Agency.

His videos are viewable on YouTube, Google Video, Vimeo and his own site His “Where the Hell is Matt? (2008)” video has been watched over 43,700,000 times on YouTube since 2011 and Harding’s YouTube channel is ranked “#83 – Most Subscribed (All Time) – Directors” as of December 22, 2010.

On June 20, 2012, 4 years after his third video, Harding released “Where the Hell is Matt? 2012“. The video features Matt and many others dancing in 71 locations, comprising 55 countries and 11 US states. The video uses the song “Trip the Light”, composed by Garry Schyman and sung by Alicia Lemke. The song was made available on iTunes, along with “Praan” and the song titled “Dance Outtakes Song” used in a video released on July 11, 2012, that features outtakes as well as locations which did not make the final video.
