Thoughts for today, #292 .… “Somebody has to do something”!!

~~November 23, 2015~~

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has been characteristically unapologeticabout his claim that “thousands and thousands” of New Jersey residents cheered as the World Trade Center fell on Sept. 11, 2001, even though contemporaneous news reports don’t support it.

And his insistence on that recollection, which has no basis in fact, shows just how expert he is at roping together conspiracy theories, urban legends, and rumors that lurk on the fringes of the Internet and bringing them into the mainstream.

Rumors of groups of people celebrating the attacks in “tailgate-style parties” popped up in national publications like The Washington Post and Associated Press, but were never confirmed as true. A highly publicized video of Muslims cheering and flashing victory signs on the day of the attack was shot in the Israeli-occupied West Bank of Palestine, not in the Garden State. A video of American Muslims celebrating the terrorist attack doesn’t appear to exist and none of the unconfirmed reports of such an incident comes anywhere near the scale that Trump describes.

“As it appears in … full read/full credit”

I’ve been reading about these comments since this weekend. I just finished watching Rachel Maddow’s TV show for today, November 23. I would recommend that you look for the video on this particular topic.

I cannot believe that this is happening in this country. I cannot believe that no one is standing up to this man. There are those who cheer and egg him on. There are those who even believe him.

Again, I pity the USA.

Trump’s outrageous claim that ‘thousands’ of New Jersey Muslims celebrated the 9/11 attacks

Glenn Kessler

“Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.”

This is a bit like writing about the hole in the doughnut — how can you write about nothing?

Trump says that he saw this with his own eyes on television and that it was well covered. But an extensive examination of news clips from that period turns up nothing. There were some reports of celebrations overseas, in Muslim countries, but nothing that we can find involving the Arab populations of New Jersey except for unconfirmed reports. This claim has never been authenticated.

As the Newark Star-Ledger put it in an article on Sept. 18, 2001, “rumors of rooftop celebrations of the attack by Muslims here proved unfounded.”

To start the day …. “Elephants Around the World Rejoice”!!

~~March 7, 2015~~

By now it’s news all around the world …. the animal advocate world. And maybe the animal world.

Ringling Bros. to give up elephant acts by 2018

POLK CITY, Fla. (AP) — The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus says the “Greatest Show on Earth” will go on without elephants.

Animal rights groups took credit for generating the public concern that forced the company to announce its pachyderm retirement plan on Thursday. But Ringling Bros.’ owners described it as the bittersweet result of years of internal family discussions.

“It was a decision 145 years in the making,” said Juliette Feld, referring to P.T. Barnum’s introduction of animals to his “traveling menagerie” in 1870. Elephants have symbolized this circus since Barnum brought an Asian elephant named Jumbo to America in 1882.

Kenneth Feld — whose father bought the circus in 1967 and who now runs Feld Enterprises Inc. with his three daughters — insisted that animal rights activists weren’t responsible.

“We’re not reacting to our critics; we’re creating the greatest resource for the preservation of the Asian elephant,” Kenneth Feld told The Associated Press as he broke the news that the last 13 performing elephants will retire by 2018, joining 29 other pachyderms at the company’s 200-acre Center for Elephant Conservation in central Florida.

But Feld acknowledged that because so many cities and counties have passed “anti-circus” and “anti-elephant” ordinances, it’s difficult to organize tours of three traveling circuses to 115 cities each year.

Fighting legislation in each jurisdiction is expensive, he said.

“All of the resources used to fight these things can be put toward the elephants,” Feld said.

Los Angeles prohibited the use of bull-hooks by elephant trainers and handlers last April. Oakland, California, did likewise in December, banning the devices used to keep elephants in control. Last month, the city of Asheville, North Carolina nixed wild or exotic animals from performing in the municipally-owned, 7,600-seat U.S. Cellular Center.

“There’s been somewhat of a mood shift among our consumers,” said Alana Feld, the company’s executive vice president. “A lot of people aren’t comfortable with us touring with our elephants.”

To start the day …. “Die Maiers Comedy Trapeze”!!

~~February 17, 2015~~

By Dominique Jando

Sabine Maier was born in 1965 in a village in the Black Forest, in Baden-Württemberg, in southwest Germany; and so was Joachim (“Yogi”) Mohr, just a year later. However, Yogi grew up in Hannover, in Lower Saxony, while Sabine remained in Baden-Württemberg, eventually moving to the university town of Freiburg im Breslau at age 18 to finish her education.

Then Sabine, who had begun to design and make clothing, went to Kassel, in Hesse, in the center of Germany (and south of Hannover), to study Art and Design. But she had also other artistic aspirations, and she went to train at Fooltime, in Bristol, England—an experimental circus and circus school where she learned a host of circus disciplines, including aerial arts. Meanwhile, Yogi moved to West Berlin (in 1985, when Germany was still divided between East- and West-Germany) and subsequently to Switzerland, where he worked at various jobs, none of them related to the circus.

When Yogi returned to Freiburg in the late 1980s, he began to juggle, and finally met Sabine. Recognizing their common interests and a shared sense of humor, they enrolled together in the École sans Filet, a well-known circus school in Brussels, Belgium, and eventually created their comedy trapeze act. In 1990, they settled in Berlin, from where they went on to work with great success all over Europe and in the United States, mostly in variety.

Sabine Maier still designs and makes costumes for the stage. She and Joachim have three children, Luca Eleonora (b. 1996), Branca Yolanda (b. 1999), and August Valentin (b. 2006).

IOTD …. “Image of the Day”, #81!!

~~November 21, 2014~~

Tell me really … who can resist? A lovely face and such a “human” expression.

To ALL my friends …. a heartfelt kiss!!

A dear blogger friend taught me about this concept.

You can find Michelle here:

~In her own words~

IOTD” is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”

It’s a grim day for those of us who held out hope that the polls were wrong, for those of us who see the stranglehold that corporate money has on American politics. It’s an even grimmer day for those who will most keenly feel the effects of that stranglehold.

Thoughts for the day …. #10!!

~~November 6, 2014~~

Fear of a Black President

Republicans are unnervingly adept at convincing large swaths of the public that up is down, or that night is, in fact, day. They have attempted this right now, on a grand scale. “Why won’t President Obama and Democrats just negotiate with us?” they bewail. They’re hoping that the public (and the media which is supposed to inform the public) has absolutely no memory of what has taken place all year long, as they have blocked — over and over again.

Dare we hope they do their job when they return to “work”?

Gotta love Bernie …. #12!! Predictions ….

~~November 5, 2014~~

Midterm Election 2014 Results: GOP Takes Stronger Grip on the House

Republicans have strengthened their majority control of the House of Representatives. Now, the only question remaining is how big that majority will grow.

While majority control of the Senate has been the primary point of discussion through the midterm elections, President Obama could face the largest House majority since the Great Depression if Republicans win a net-gain of 13 seats in the lower chamber today.

With House Republicans adding to their current 34-seat majority, it will possibly diminish some of the power of a conservative wing of lawmakers who have challenged House Speaker John Boehner’s leadership on issues like health care, immigration reform and government spending.

Born in 1941 in Brooklyn, Bernie was the younger of two sons in a modest-income family. After graduation from the University of Chicago in 1964, he moved to Vermont. Early in his career, Sanders was director of the American People’s Historical Society. Elected Mayor of Burlington by 10 votes in 1981, he served four terms.

Before his 1990 election as Vermont’s at-large member in Congress, Sanders lectured at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and at Hamilton College in upstate New York.

Mission accomplished …. “In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed”!!

~~September 2, 2014~~

Really? You serious? Naw …..

I look at this picture. I remember his knee-bending, daunting stroll, wearing his flight suit, sauntering on board a USS Carrier.

What have we seen since then? It’s worse now and the worst is yet to be. The appearance and strengthening of ISIS. The beheading of two American journalists and the threatening of a British one. Brace for more ….

~As it appears in …. ~

“The 2003 Mission Accomplished speech gets its name from a banner that read “Mission Accomplished” displayed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln during a televised address by United States President George W. Bush on May 1, 2003 and the controversy that followed.

Bush stated at the time that this was the end to major combat operations in Iraq. Bush’s assertion — and the sign itself — became controversial after guerrilla warfare in Iraq increased during the Iraqi insurgency. The vast majority of casualties, both military and civilian, occurred after the speech.

On May 1, 2003, Bush became the first sitting President to make an arrested landing in a fixed-wing aircraft on an aircraft carrier when he arrived at the USS Abraham Lincoln in a Lockheed S-3 Viking, dubbed Navy One, as the carrier lay just off the San Diego coast, having returned from combat operations in the Persian Gulf. He posed for photographs with pilots and members of the ship’s crew while wearing a flight suit. A few hours later, he gave a speech announcing the end of major combat operations in the Iraq War. Far above him was the warship’s banner stating “Mission Accomplished.”

Bush was criticized for the historic jet landing on the carrier as an overly theatrical and expensive stunt. For instance, it was pointed out that the carrier was well within range of Bush’s helicopter, and that a jet landing was not needed. Originally the White House had stated that the carrier was too far off the California coast for a helicopter landing and a jet would be needed to reach it.

On the day of the speech, the Lincoln was only 30 miles (48 km) from shore but the administration still decided to go ahead with the jet landing. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer admitted that Bush “could have helicoptered, but the plan was already in place. Plus, he wanted to see a landing the way aviators see a landing.” The Lincoln made a scheduled stop in Pearl Harbor shortly before the speech, docked in San Diego after the speech, and returned to her home port in Everett, Washington on May 6, 2003.”

“We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We are bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous.”
“Our mission continues … The War on Terror continues, yet it is not endless. We do not know the day of final victory, but we have seen the turning of the tide.”

“In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.”

~President George W. Bush~

Iraq War opponents have used the phrase “mission accomplished” in an ironic sense, while others have non-politically cited it as an example of a general public relations failure.

And now, the incredible worsening of the situation in a war-torn country thanks to the U.S. of A.

From the person who posted the video ….

“Oddly enough, this video is very rare on the web, so I decided to post it. This is a just a reminder of what a dumb f*ck President Bush was. Actually, I shouldn’t say he WAS a dumb ass, he still IS.”

A circus elephant …. “Sway With No Play”!!

~~June 19, 2014~~

Sway With No Play

I am an elephant
Forced to perform in a traveling circus
That is not my element
My herd I was taken from
Alone I have become
I miss my mommies touch
My trunk she would clutch
I am put on display
For their money to be made
In the wrong kind of way
They teach me to obey
My spirit they are trained to break
My dignity they also take

Fifteen years I have already been here
I live in fear
I am beat on my legs with a club
For them to sell a ticket stub
Because I do not know how to sit in this chair
They scream and swear
I am poked with a bull hook
My skin takes on a new look
I am beat with a stick to learn new tricks
In strange positions I am made to sit
They make me stand on my head
Everyday of my life I dread
This is not natural for me
I should be with my family running free

They keep me confined
My legs they bind
Bound by a chain
I am detained
Standing for hours in one spot
My leg forms a knot
With a tight grip
They strike my face with a whip
I stand on my feet for twenty three hours a day
The stress on my body weighs

I am bored
I am ignored
I sway day after day
My life is on replay
In a hot metal trailer I am stuffed
Still one foot cuffed
One hundred degrees of heat
Thousands of miles on this black tar street
Eleven months out of the year
The sound of engines is all I hear
Twenty six hours on the road
No food or water as I am towed
On to the next town
I am still bound

Everyday beaten to perform
My mind eventually transforms
I escape because I am upset
To the public I am a threat
Things are out of control
They call the police patrol
Arriving with their guns in the air
My life they do not spare
Across this nation

Wild animals in circuses are used for exploitation
This could have been prevented
Had this business not been misrepresented
This is my grave because I was never saved
My whole life I was their slave
Wild animals in circuses need to be banned
Take a stand

“This is such bullshit. These animals deserve to be in the wild in their natural habitat.

USA citizens, Please send my sample letter to your representative in this link  Thank you so much

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing as a constituent to ask for your support of federal legislation to protect wild animals in circuses. Such legislation addresses an important issue that gravely concerns me about the welfare of wild animals forced to perform in traveling circuses.

Careful research and detailed undercover investigations have shown the welfare of animals is unacceptably compromised under the confinement and cruel training practices that are inherent in traveling circuses. Wild, stressed animals in close quarters with the public has proven to be a public safety hazard, with escaped animals both maiming and even killing members of the public, including children. It is also estimated that around 12% of Asian and 2% of African elephants in North America have tuberculosis (TB), a disease transmissible from elephants to humans.

Every time we allow a majestic wild animal to be reduced to a cheap circus trick, we are not just turning a blind eye to cruelty, we are advancing the belief that it is acceptable to be inhumane and setting a poor example for our children. Simply put, animal acts in circuses are antiquated and belong in the past. Entertaining contemporary circuses like Cirque du Soleil prove that the show will go on without abused animals. Cirque du Soleil now has 19 shows in 271 cities, generating an estimated $810 million a year.

Over 20 countries around the world have adopted national legislation prohibiting or restricting the use of wild and exotic animals in circuses, with hundreds of local bans in place worldwide – over 200 in the UK, and hundreds in Europe and South America, as well as Asia. The time is now to act! Please follow the will of your compassionate constituents and be a leader in Congress to work toward protections for circus animals.

Thank you for your public service and I look forward to hearing from you on this important matter.

~~Circus Animal Cruelty: Abused for Entertainment~~

~~Uploaded September 13, 2009~~

Trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks and other painful tools of the trade to force animals to perform

In more than 35 dangerous incidents since 2000, elephants have bolted from circuses, run amok through streets, crashed into buildings, attacked members of the public, and killed and injured handlers

Every major circus that uses animals has been cited for violating the minimal standards of care set forth in the United States Animal Welfare Act

On average, circuses travel about 48 weeks per year. And circus animals spend an average of 26 hours in cages during the transport

Virtually 96% of a circus animal’s life is spent in chains or cages.
