Thanksgiving Day Google Logo Serves Up An Animated Turkey For The Holiday

Google’s Thanksgiving Day Doodle is accompanied by a link answering the question “What is tryptophan?”

To celebrate today’s holiday, Google’s homepage includes an animated Thanksgiving Day turkey with sharing icons to post the bouncing turkey on your social pages.

Along with the illustrated bird, is a link answering the question “What is tryptophan?” to clarify why it’s so difficult to stay awake after ingesting large quantities of turkey.

The backdrop for today’s Thanksgiving Day Google Doodle includes an arrangement of autumn inspired leaves spelling out Google, but after record-breaking snowfalls across the Northeast, a winter-themed animation probably would have been more relevant.

Here’s hoping you stay warm, have plenty of food, and much to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving from Search Engine Land!

~~Happy Thanksgiving Day 2014 – Animated Google Doodle~~

~~Published on Nov 27, 2014~~

On 27 November 2014, Google Doodle celebrates the Thanksgiving Day 2014 with an cute animated doodle.

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. It is currently celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States by federal legislation in 1941. It has been an annual tradition in the United States by presidential proclamation since 1863 and by state legislation since the Founding Fathers of the United States. Historically, Thanksgiving has traditionally been a celebration of the blessings of the (agricultural) year, including the harvest.

As President of the United States, George Washington proclaimed the first nation-wide thanksgiving celebration in America marking November 26, 1789, “as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God”. In modern times the President of the United States, in addition to issuing a proclamation, will “pardon” a turkey, which spares the bird’s life and ensures that it will spend the duration of its life roaming freely on farmland.

Thanksgiving 2014 …. let’s hope not!!

~~November 26, 2014~~

Technology imposes social isolation

In 1960’s America, social interaction was an art form, a discipline nurtured during one’s prepubescent years through to the end of adolescence. These formative years focused on equipping people with the necessary social skills that would allow them to survive and thrive as human beings and as members of society.

However, the evolution of technology led to significant shifts in the way social interaction developed within American homes. This has degraded the nature of such interactions and the resulting relationships within our society in favor of convenience.

On this holiday this week we should do our best to “look up”, leave the cell phones, tablets and other electronic equipment away from the table. This is a special day and has always been a family day … in spite of any differences.

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year.

Let’s be thankful for all bountiful blessings received, including technology. Yet, let’s take advantage of the time together and really connect.

To start the day …. “World Peace Day”!!

~~November 17, 2014~~

World Peace Day is celebrated on November 17, 2014

This is a “state” that should be permanent. Every one talks about “peace”. We all wish that there was peace in our world. We wish that smaller units like family units and communities be peaceful. This would translate exponentially to countries and the world.

PEACE should have one day … PEACE should “be” every day.

Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. Millions of people in all countries do. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, or just sitting in silent meditation. Or it can involve getting your friends, family, organization, community or government engaged in a large event. The impact of millions of people in all parts of the world, coming together for one day of peace, is immense. Peace Day is also a Day of Ceasefire – personal or political.

Take this opportunity to make peace in your own relationships as well as impact the larger conflicts of our time. Imagine what a whole Day of Peace would mean to humankind.

“As it appears in … “

What is PEACE?

Peace is an occurrence of harmony characterized by lack of violence, conflict behaviors and the freedom from fear of violence. Commonly understood as the absence of hostility and retribution, peace also suggests sincere attempts at reconciliation, the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, prosperity in matters of social or economic welfare, the establishment of equality, and a working political order that serves the true interests of all.

Google Doodle …. Veterans Day, 2014!!

~~November 11, 2014~~

Veterans Day 2014: Google Doodle honors America’s Armed Forces

Today is Veterans Day and Google has marked the occasion with a Doodle honoring the United States Armed Forces.
In America 11 November is a federal holiday, which falls on the anniversary of the end of the First World War in 1918. Like Memorial Day in May, it commemorates those who have died fighting for their country, but Veterans Day also honors the living, thanking them for their continued work and sacrifice in the military.

Parades and ceremonies will be held across the US today. In Washington DC the Concert for Valor is scheduled to take place at the National Mall.

~Veteran’s Day 2014 – Google Doodle Tribute to Veterans~

~Published on Nov 11, 2014~

On 11 November 2014, Google Doodle honors the Veterans Day 2014.

Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect).

The United States also originally observed Armistice Day; it then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.

At the end of the day …. “Escape”!!

~~November 8, 2014~~

Escape“, also known as “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)”, is a song written and recorded by American singer Rupert Holmes. It was released in September 1979 as the lead single from his album Partners in Crime. It was the last U.S. number one song of the 1970s.

I was listening to the “Guardians of the Galaxy” soundtrack. It’s a great movie, by the way. I love the songs because it’s a trip back in time. Several of the oldies and goodies are included. One of them is this one.

It’s ironic that this couple have been together forever and allowed routine to set in and were kinda looking for some excitement. Interesting to note that both ended up together because they liked the same things and didn’t know.

Communication is key!

The song speaks, in three verses and three choruses, of a man who is bored with his current relationship because it has become routine and he desires some variety. One night, he reads the personal advertisements and spots an ad that catches his attention: a woman who is seeking a man who, among other little things, must like piña coladas. Intrigued, he writes back and arranges to meet the woman “at a bar called O’Malley’s”, only to find upon the meeting that the woman is actually his girlfriend/wife.

The song ends on an upbeat note, showing that the two lovers realized they have more in common than they’d suspected, and that they do not have to look any further than each other for what they seek in a relationship.

I was tired of my lady, we’d been together too long
Like a worn-out recording of a favorite song
So while she lay there sleeping, I read the paper in bed
And in the personals column there was this letter I read

“If you like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain
If you’re not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain
If you like making love at midnight in the dunes of the cape
I’m the lady you’ve looked for, write to me and escape”

I didn’t think about my lady, I know that sounds kind of mean
But me and my old lady had fallen into the same old dull routine
So I wrote to the paper, took out a personal ad
And though I’m nobody’s poet, I thought it wasn’t half-bad

“Yes, I like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain
I’m not much into health food, I am into champagne
I’ve got to meet you by tomorrow noon and cut through all this red tape
At a bar called O’Malley’s, where we’ll plan our escape”

So I waited with high hopes then she walked in the place
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face
It was my own lovely lady and she said, “Oh, it’s you”
And we laughed for a moment and I said, “I never knew”

“That you liked Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain
And the feel of the ocean and the taste of champagne
If you like making love at midnight in the dunes of the cape
You’re the love that I’ve looked for, come with me and escape”

“If you like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain
And the feel of the ocean and the taste of champagne
If you like making love at midnight in the dunes of the cape
You’re the love that I’ve looked for, come with me and escape”

Google Doodle …. “Day of the Dead”!!

~~November 2, 2014~~

Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday observed throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.

The celebration takes place on October 31, November 1 and November 2, in connection with the triduum of Allhallowtide: All Hallows’ Eve, Hallowmas, and All Souls’ Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts.

They also leave possessions of the deceased.

To start the day …. “It’s Halloween”!!

~~October 31, 2014~~

Halloween, a contraction of “All Hallows’ Evening”, also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints’ Eve, is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. It initiates the triduum of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers. Within Allhallowtide, the traditional focus of All Hallows’ Eve revolves around the theme of using “humor and ridicule to confront the power of death.”

According to many scholars, All Hallows’ Eve is a Christianized feast initially influenced by Celtic harvest festivals, with possible pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic Samhain. Other scholars maintain that it originated independently of Samhain and has solely Christian roots.

Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the “darker half” of the year. It is celebrated from sunset on 31 October to sunset on 1 November, or about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals, along with Imbolc, Beltane and Lughnasadh.

Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Kindred festivals were held at the same time of year in other Celtic lands; for example the Brythonic Calan Gaeaf (in Wales), Kalan Gwav (in Cornwall), and Kalan Goañv (in Brittany).
