Announcement …. “‘Tis The Season … “

ON A LIGHTER NOTE

I’m going to be away from this spot, “It Is What It Is“, for a few days. I won’t have full access to a PC or laptop.

I still have the capacity to keep an eye on what happens in the blogosphere while I’m away.

I’m not able to just disconnect, particularly with what is going on in our world at this time.

There are so many problems, issues, conflicts, injustices, bigotry, destruction, killing, wars ….. We need to stay informed and educated about “happenings“.

I will leave you today with a message.

As noted above, we won’t find peace until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, as Mr. Sweitzer noted.

I’M CHECKING TWICE

Santa Claus’s reindeer form an imaginary team of flying reindeer traditionally held to pull the sleigh of Santa Claus and help him deliver Christmas gifts.

They are:

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen.

I’m one of them. Which one do you think I am?

The 1823 poem by Clement C. Moore “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (also known as “The Night Before Christmas” or “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas“) is largely credited for the contemporary Christmas lore that includes the eight flying reindeer and their names.

The relevant segment of the poem reads:

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny rein-deer,
with a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and call’d them by name:
“Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer, and Vixen!

New Year 2015: Google wishes Happy New Year with an animated doodle

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year 2015, Google has posted an animated doodle on its homepage. The doodle has been created by guest artist Cindy Suen.

This doodle is in tune with Google’s tradition of posting doodles on New Year.

The last year’s New Year doodle was in continuation to the New year’s eve 2013 doodle. The animated doodle showed a party on with speakers blaring and the digits 2-0-1-3 grooving on the dance floor and the digit 4 that had been waiting for the new year to begin replaced the digit 3 to form “2014”.

I know Christmas day is over. The new year will begin tomorrow. The meaning of this song applies to any time of the year.

Today is a special day … it’s the day when the year ends. We’ve had all kinds of experiences …. good or bad, happy or sad.  Our world has gone through many changes in many ways.

Jacqueline Marie “Jackie” Evancho (born April 9, 2000) is an American classical crossover singer who gained wide recognition at an early age and, since 2009, has issued an EP and five albums, including a platinum and gold album and three Billboard 200 top 10 debuts.

Evancho is the ambassador for Mission: Humane, a U.S. Humane Society program that encourages children to help protect animals. A national cotillion organization listed her as one of the “ten best-mannered people of 2011”. From late 2012 to 2014, she toured the U.S., performing songs from her fourth full-length album, Songs from the Silver Screen, released in October 2012, which was Evancho’s third top-ten album debut. In 2013 she also headlined benefit concerts at Carnegie Hall and the LDS Conference Center.

She appeared in the 2013 Robert Redford film The Company You Keep, modeled for Guess Kids clothing, among others, and has appeared on behalf of such charities as One Drop Foundation. IT’S CHRISTMAS EVE … A VERY SPECIAL DAY OF THE YEAR

Christmas Eve is the evening or day before Christmas Day. It occurs on December 24 in Western Christianity and the secular world, and is considered one of the most culturally significant celebrations in Christendom and Western society, where it is widely observed, by Christians and by many others, as a full or partial holiday in anticipation of Christmas Day.

Christmas celebrations have long begun on the night of the 24, due in part to the Christian liturgical day starting at sunset, a practice inherited from Jewish tradition and based on the story of Creation in the Book of Genesis: “And there was evening, and there was morning – the first day.” Many churches still ring their church bells and hold prayers in the evening; for example, the Nordic Lutheran churches. Since tradition holds that Jesus was born at night (based in Luke 2:6-8), Midnight Mass is celebrated on Christmas Eve, traditionally at midnight, in commemoration of his birth.

The idea of Jesus being born at night is reflected in the fact that Christmas Eve is referred to as Heilige Nacht (Holy Night) in German, Nochebuena (the Good Night) in Spanish and similarly in other expressions of Christmas spirituality, such as the song “Silent Night, Holy Night”.

At the end of the day …. “Two Days till Christmas”!!

Christmas is fast approaching. There are four days left before the holiday is upon us. This has been quite the year. As it comes to an end, we hope that this new coming year be better in many aspects.

“It Is What It Is” will feature a special song every night as the countdown approaches.

This some is one of my many favorites and it’s a very special one.

“Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” is a song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, released in 1971 as a single by John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Choir. It was the seventh single release by Lennon outside of his work with the Beatles. The song reached number 4 in the UK, where its release was delayed until November 1972, and has periodically reemerged on the UK Singles Chart, most notably after Lennon’s death in 1980, at which point it peaked at number 2.

Also a protest song against the Vietnam War, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” has since become a Christmas standard, frequently covered by other artists, appearing on compilation albums of seasonal music, and named in polls as a holiday favorite.

These are times of turmoil and conflict. It’s felt all over the world. At the same time the holidays are upon us.

This song is timeless and immemorial. Still applies to the current world events.
