To start the day …. “Gimme Shelter”!!

~~November 23, 2014~~

The holidays are around the corner. Thanksgiving will be celebrated this week. After that Christmas and the New Year.

We all know that the homeless situation in this country is out of control. Several cities are passing laws that are making the homeless’ existence even more dire.

We are all human. We all bleed red. We all have basic needs. We are in a constant state of war … this one is within our country and our communities.

In the spirit of this season, let’s try to alleviate the existence of those who are less fortunate and have “fallen” into this state of homelessness that they do not deserve

Let us not forget that!

Gimme Shelter” is a song by the English rock band The Rolling Stones. It first appeared as the opening track on the band’s 1969 album Let It Bleed. Although the first word was spelled “Gimmie” on that album, subsequent recordings by the band and other musicians have made “Gimme” the customary spelling. Greil Marcus, writing in Rolling Stone at the time of its release, said of it, “The Stones have never done anything better.”

On Let It Bleed’s bleak world view, Jagger said in a 1995 interview with Rolling Stone

“Well, it’s a very rough, very violent era. The Vietnam War. Violence on the screens, pillage and burning. And Vietnam was not war as we knew it in the conventional sense. The thing about Vietnam was that it wasn’t like World War II, and it wasn’t like Korea, and it wasn’t like the Gulf War. It was a real nasty war, and people didn’t like it. People objected, and people didn’t want to fight it …” As for the song itself, he concluded, “That’s a kind of end-of-the-world song, really. It’s apocalypse; the whole record’s like that.”

Similarly, on NPR in 2012

“It was a very moody piece about the world closing in on you a bit. When it was recorded, early ’69 or something, it was a time of war and tension, so that’s reflected in this tune. It’s still wheeled out when big storms happen, as they during Hurricane Sandy.

It’s been used a lot to evoke natural disaster.”

THIS SONG IS TIMELESS … STILL APPLIES TO OUR REALITY

~~LYRICS~~

Oh, a storm is threat’ning
My very life today
If i don’t get some shelter
Oh yeah, i’m gonna fade away

War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

Ooh, see the fire is sweepin’
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way

War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away

Gimme Shelter” is a track that we have wanted to record for years, and today we can finally share it with you. This song expresses the urgency we all face to unite together as a planet, and offers us wisdom with the words “War, children, it’s just a shot away … Love, sister, it’s just a kiss away.” It really is that simple.

ONLY IN FLORI-DUH

Florida police handed out citations and threatened to arrest two priests and a 90-year-old veteran volunteer for feeding the homeless. A recently passed city ordinance makes sharing food a citable offense.

Fort Lauderdale police removed at least three volunteers, as well as the Sunday lunch they were serving to several dozen homeless people, citing a controversial new ordinance that prohibits food sharing. Passed in October 2014, the measure was created to try to cut down the growing population of homeless people in Fort Lauderdale.

Importance of appearances experiment … a French short film!!

~~November 18, 2014~~

French film shows how people discriminate regarding people in need

An online video shows the stark difference between how people react to someone in serious trouble based on their clothes.

The film titled “The Importance of Appearances” created by French entertainer NormiTUBE begins with a man who appears to be homeless – wearing jeans, a ski hat and old gray jacket – having a medical issue on the street and ultimately collapsing to the ground.

He is then ignored for nearly five minutes as people just walk on by while he lies in the street wailing in pain and asks passersby for help. But nobody stops to assist him – even an elderly lady who stopped next to him but didn’t speak to the victim.

“What if it was you?” the film asks. “What if nobody stopped by to help you when you’re in need?”

But when a man dressed in a business suit has a similar coughing attack and falls onto the pavement the scene is much different.

People stop and immediately tend to him.

“Sir can you hear me? Try to talk to me sir! Say something!” a woman cries.

“I’ve never been so sad and shocked while filming as I was for this experience,” wrote the filmaker in the video’s description. “I hope this video will make you want to help anyone regardless of its appearance.”

“The fact that everyone ignores doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. It is by simple and heroic actions that we begin to appreciate the true meaning of the word ‘humanity,'” the film states. “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

(Le poids des apparences)

~~Published on May 12, 2014~~

I hope this vidéo will give you the desire to help anyone no matters how they look like.

Thoughts for today …. #37!!

~~November 18, 2014~~

A record 2.5 million children in the U.S. were homeless at some point in 2013, according to a new report from the National Center for Family and Homelessness.

This amounts to one in 30 children and an 8 percent increase in child homelessness between 2012 and 2013. Nearly half the children are under the age of six. While the problem is most prevalent in Alabama, Mississippi, and California, it exists in every city, county, and state in the country.

The nation’s high poverty rate, a lack of affordable housing, and traumatic experiences – especially domestic violence — are the main causes of rising child homelessness. Most of the children come from single parent households, and 20-50 percent of the mothers of homeless children have experienced intimate partner violence, according to the report.

The effect of even temporary homelessness may lead to serious mental health issues and affect a child for the rest of his or her life. Trauma stemming from residential instability has been shown to interfere with learning and lead to poor cognitive skills and emotional self-regulation.
