At the end of the day …. “Black Friday 2015 …. “!!

BLACK FRIDAY 2015

Black Friday used to be a one-day shopping event for many retailers, but over time, with Cyber Monday and Small Business Saturday coming into the mix, it’s become a big weekend-long shopping event.

With so much buzz around this shopping extravaganza, it’s not hard to buy into the circus of it all. You’ll make impulse purchases and fall into every retailers’ trap to get you to spend your small fortune in their stores. They’ll pull out all the stops to get you in their stores and then, well, I’m sure you know the rest.

Don’t be tempted by all the bold colors in the ads that draw you in and especially the low prices that get your attention. During this year’s biggest shopping event, be a smarter shopper by following some of these rules:

Bow & Arrow Hunting: “Despite Arrow Lodged in Face, Mother Deer Cares for Her Fawn”!!

G1

~~September 8, 2015~~

THIS IS WHAT HUNTING DOES

If there was ever any doubt that hunting’s victims can suffer long after the first shot is fired, take a look at Grace, a deer who had an arrow from a botched hunt lodged in her face for the better part of a year. Despite the pain she undoubtedly endured during this time, she managed to give birth to and care for her fawn, who appears healthy.

An online petition was created to help the arrow-struck deer, and it took wildlife officials months to track her down. Finally, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife said that wildlife experts were able to tranquilize her and cut off the shaft of the arrow, so Grace no longer runs the risk of snagging the arrow shaft on something that could cause her even more harm.

Officials decided to leave the arrowhead in place since Grace’s skin around it had already healed.

G2

Even though Grace survived and will continue to care for her fawn, many victims of hunting are not so lucky. Bow hunters often spend hours tracking the blood trails of wounded animals, and many victims are lost only to succumb unseen to their injuries.

Families are torn apart, and orphaned young are left to starve.

Some believe hunting is “necessary” to combat the overpopulation of wildlife, but natural processes work to stabilize groups of animals. While natural predators help maintain the balance by killing only the sickest and weakest individuals, hunters kill any animal whose head they would like to hang over the fireplace — including large, healthy animals who are needed to keep populations strong.

When human hunters interfere, the natural balance is disrupted.

What You Can Do
Don’t hunt, and encourage others to abandon this cruel activity.

Don’t allow other animals to suffer like Grace did.

NJ Deer Shot in the Face with an Arrow

~Published on May 6, 2015~

SHARK works to save a deer cruelly shot in the face with an arrow. For six months she has suffered and survived, and now it is time that she get help.

The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife claims it tried to tranquilize Grace so she could be treated, but their dart failed to inject the tranquilizer. Apparently bringing a second dart never occurred to the agency.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie received calls. This lead the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife to do everything possible to SAVE Grace, who had suffered enough.

Great News!

On September 1, 2015, NJ Fish and Wildlife darted Grace with a tranquilizer, and sheared off the arrow.

Our deepest thanks to all who called NJ F&W, and motivated the agency to do the right thing!

Thoughts for today, #151 …. “Trophy Hunters”!!

Rick

~~May 6, 2015~~

Trophy hunting is the selective hunting of wild game animals. Although parts of the slain animal may be kept as a hunting trophy or memorial (usually the skin, antlers and/or head), the carcass itself is sometimes used as food.

Trophy hunting has firm supporters and opponents. Public debate about trophy hunting often centers on the question of the morality of sport hunting and the question of the extent to which the money paid by trophy hunters benefits the population of game animals and the local economy.

Trophy hunting should not be confused with poaching, the practice of taking game illegally.

~THE HUNTING TROPHY~

A hunting trophy is an item prepared from the body of a game animal killed by a hunter and kept as a souvenir of the successful hunting or fishing expedition.

Often, the heads or entire bodies are processed by a taxidermist, although sometimes other body parts such as teeth, tusks or horns are used as the trophies.

Such trophies are often displayed in the hunter’s home or office, and often in specially designed “trophy rooms,” sometimes called “game rooms” or “gun rooms,” in which the hunter’s weaponry is displayed as well.

Tables are turned …. “You become the hunted”!!

Rescue

The Tables are Turned – You Become the Hunted

Elephant numbers have dropped by 62% over the last decade, with “some” populations likely pushed into extinction by the end of the next decade – Central African population possibly the first.

An estimated 100 African elephants are killed each day by poachers seeking ivory, meat and body parts, leaving only 400,000 (census counted known) and some 800,00 non-counted – remaining.

An insatiable lust for ivory products in the Asian market makes the illegal ivory trade extremely profitable, and has led to the of tens of thousands of African elephants. Between 2010 and 2014, the price of ivory in China has tripled, driving illicit poaching through the roof. If the elephants are to survive, the demand for ivory must be drastically reduced.

As of 2011, the world is losing more elephants than the population can reproduce, threatening the future of African elephants across the continent. Bull elephants with big tusks are the main targets and their numbers have been diminished to less than half of the females.

Female African elephants have tusks and are also killed, which has a terrible effect on the stability of elephant societies, leaving an increasing number of orphaned baby elephants.

Take A Stand PSA featuring Billy Joel

Wildlife Conservation Society

~~Published on Apr 16, 2015~~

http://96elephants.org

Africa’s elephants have just gotten a powerful new supporter – music legend, Billy Joel. Joel’s voice is heard in a series of new ads supporting the Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) 96 Elephants campaign – so named for the number of elephants slaughtered each day by poachers.

With the backdrop of computer-animated elephants coming to life from shards of ivory, Joel’s voiceover warns: “We can’t turn back time, but we can reverse this trend. Don’t be the generation that allowed elephants to go extinct.”

The “Take a Stand for Elephants,” campaign was conceived and developed for 96 Elephants by pro bono partner, Steve Harper, founder of ThisisBonaFide.com
