‘I Can See, Mommy’: Witness The Moment Two Blind Sisters See The World For First Time

Sonia and Anita, two sisters living in rural India, were both born blind. A simple surgery, costing about $300, could have restored their sight long ago; but their parents, who earn 17 cents an hour planting and harvesting rice by hand, could barely make ends meet.

Though the odds seemed stacked against them, the girls got a happy ending anyway.

Thanks to the efforts of 20/20/20, a nonprofit working to restore vision to blind children and adults in some of the world’s poorest countries, Sonia and Anita were able to undergo that simple surgery on their eyes. When the bandages came off, they saw the world around them for the very first time, and it was captured in a video detailing the sisters’ story.

Sonia, 12, is said to have gasped as she opened her eyes and blinked into the sunlight for the first time. Her 6-year-old sister, holding her mother close, reportedly declared, “I can see, Mommy.”

According to 20/20/20, the 15-minute “miracle” surgery, which the sisters both underwent, involves a surgeon removing the defective lens that causes blindness and replacing it with an artificial lens. The procedure could restore the eyesight of half the blind children and adults in the world, the nonprofit says.

“The only problem is, for the poorest people in the world, who live on $1 a day, they could never afford to pay for a $300 surgery. So they will remain blind for the rest of their lives –- unless someone helps them,” 20/20/20 writes on its website.

“It is an amazing experience to watch a child or adult who was blind open their eyes and see. Some gasp, some cry, some scream with joy. Some are too stunned to do anything except look around them and take it all in,” the company also says on its website.

Sonia and Anita are reportedly both doing well since their life-changing procedures. 20/20/20 says that the older sister is now going to school and has made friends.

~~First Sight: Sonia & Anita~~

(Extended Version)

~~Published on Jun 9, 2014~~

Blue Chalk traveled to India and documented the story of two sisters, both born blind, and followed them through the emotional process of receiving their surgeries and seeing for the first time. Working with a top-tier creative team including photographer Brent Stirton, cinematographer Robert Wilson, editor Greg Snider, music composer Tyler Strickland and executive producer Rob Finch, Blue Chalk created a short-form video in several different formats to support its fundraising efforts as well as a library of high-quality still images that WonderWork can use in printed direct mail pieces.

First Sight: Sonia & Anita,” as featured in “Two Blind Sisters See for the First Time,” will support 20/20/20, a WonderWork charity that aims to bring 20/20 vision to the 20 million in need. (

At the end of the day …. “Okaidi teams up with Playing for Change”!!

~~November 3, 2014~~

Okaïdi teams up with the Playing For Change foundation: “Peace through music”

“Don’t Worry Be Happy”

Music forms bonds, encourages people to express themselves and brings out the best in us, so for Okaïdi, it’s great for helping children to develop and fulfill their potential.

“Today we are proud to release a new Song Around The World that features children performing alongside PFC musicians on the Bobby McFerrin classic, “Don’t Worry Be Happy”. Perfect message and a great song.

This video is part of our partnership with Okaidi, a children’s clothing line based in France. We are very excited to announce that the Playing For Change Foundation is working with Okaidi to launch a music program across 10 primary schools in the Mirpur District of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Okaidi Foundation recently created these schools and is now partnering with the PFC Foundation to introduce music as part of their curriculum. Through this new initiative, over 500 underprivileged children between the ages of 6 and 12 will receive free music education as part of their weekly activities at school.

Music is the Key!

Get ready to smile from ear to ear and move your dancing feet. Share this with your family, friends, and community, and together we can continue to make this world a better place.”

National Black Cat Day …. October 30!!

National Black Cat Day Banner

~~October 31, 2014~~

I have to honor Kitty … my black cat. Also know as “Double Trouble”. She chose me … after a few close encounters where she was almost “sent away”, she’s here to stay.

~The history of National Black Cat Day~

Thursday 30 October 2014 marks our fourth National Black Cat Day, Cats Protection’s annual campaign to celebrate black and black-and-white cats.

Black cats are often overlooked by potential adopters and take on average a week longer to home. We’re not sure why but we don’t want to see them left waiting in the wings so invite you to join us in commending the beauty of black cats.

Thousands of people backed the UK’s first ever Black Cat Awareness Day – as it was known then – on 27 October, which drew attention to the hundreds of homeless black cats in Cats Protection’s care and the apparent reluctance of people to adopt them.

Fictional mascot Billy Noir-Mates was the face of the campaign, starring in his own video and donning social media profiles.

To start the day …. “Still complaining?”

~~October 28, 2014~~

Many times I run into topics to include in these posts by chance. This is what happened this morning. It is never my intention to offend any one or to make readers sad, or posts depressing topics.

My intention is always to bring forth inspirational ideas, subjects that need our attention, fun topics, music, videos, etc.

Yet there’s always another side of the coin.

Many times we are bogged down by our reality and that isn’t bad. It is what we live day to day. Yet we forget that there are other human beings who are going through a rough time … sometimes merely because of the geographical location they find themselves in.

Many times there is nothing that we as individuals are capable of doing. Maybe only being aware of the situation … and count our blessing because there are others who aren’t as lucky as we are.

(Nor is it the intention to tie this post with any religion/church. It so happens that I thought this particular video was well done and illustrated the point.)

At the end of the day …. The Piano Guys: “Don’t You Worry Child”!!

~~October 27, 2014~~

What do you get when you mix up a marketing genius that does video, a studio engineer that writes music, a pianist that had a successful solo career, and a cellist that does pretty much everything? The Piano Guys: a miraculous meeting of “guys” with the same intrinsic purpose – to make a positive impact in the lives of people all over the world through music videos.

It all started in a piano store in a little town in Southern Utah called St. George. Paul Anderson, the store owner, was looking for a new, unconventional way to market pianos. The name of the store? The Piano Guys.

… and the rest is history!

“As it appears in … “

The Piano Guys are an American musical group consisting of Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Tel Stewart, Paul Anderson and Al van der Beek. They became famous through YouTube, where they posted videos of renditions and mashups of popular songs accompanied by professional-looking video shots and edited by Paul Anderson and Tel Stewart. In December 2011, they released their first album, titled Hits Volume 1. Their second album, The Piano Guys, reached number one on the Billboard New Age Albums and Classical Albums charts in 2012.

Shweta Subram is a multi-lingual Indo-Canadian singer, songwriter and performer. She primarily sings in Hindi, though she has also lent her voice to Tamil and English projects. Shweta is the recipient of multiple awards including the North American Best Singer award from Sangam Kala Group, and Best Singer Award from Shankar Mahadevan Academy’s talent hunt, judged by Shankar Mahadevan himself.

Shweta’s performances consist of popular Bollywood songs and she has performed in over 50 cities around the globe, mostly as a headliner.

“Don’t You Worry Child” is a song by Swedish electronic dance group Swedish House Mafia. It is the sixth and final single released before the group broke up, featuring vocals from Swedish singer John Martin. In the United States, it is the act’s second number-one single on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, following “Save the World“. It received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording in the 2013 Grammy Awards, as did its predecessor, “Save the World“, the previous year.

Twamev mata ca pita, badhu, sakha, vidya, dravidam
Sarvo mum deva deva
[You are truly my mother and my father, my friend, my kin, my knowledge, and
my wealth.
You are my everything, my God of Gods]
[Happiness without worry]
Kuch saalon pehle ki baatein, Mujhko yaad aayi
[There was a time years ago]
Jisme mainey kuch galtiya ki thi
[When I first met adversity]
Aur phir jaane kyo, Dil ye rota tha
[My heart cried out in sorrow]
Kyonki nadaani karnaa aasaan tha
[When in my innocence I stumbled]
Mere dil ki hai dua, Khush raho sadaa
[In my heart I pray for happiness]
Na bhoolana… Khushnuma
[Always remember…happiness without worry]
Sun le zaraa… Dil ki dua
[Hear me … the prayer in my heart]
Sun le zaraa
[Hear my heart]

Swedish House Mafia

Story behind the music and the video
While shooting our video “Lord of the Rings” Steve’s steel cello was damaged. When we reattached the fingerboard the strings were too close to the surface and this caused a buzzing sound when plucked. The Sitello was born — a cross between an Indian sitar and a cello. This sparked an idea. We love incorporating ethnicity into our arrangements ….

We’d like to thank the Sri Sri Radha Krsna Temple for letting us film there — learn more about their temple here:
We’d also like to thank Troy Tasker and Shaun Jeffery for helping us scout out the Little Sahara Dunes and Bryce Payne for loaning us his trailer to make it possible!

“Angels are the guardians of hope and wonder, the keepers of magic and dreams”.

Calling All Angels

Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Santa Anna, Santa Susannah
Santa Cecilia, Santa Copelia, Santa Domenica, Mary Angelica
Frater Achad, Frater Pietro, Julianus, Petronilla
Santa, Santos, Miroslaw, Vladimir
and all the rest

Oh, a man is placed upon the steps, a baby cries
and high above you can hear
the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness, oh the heaviness, the body settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing

then it’s one foot then the other
as you step out onto the road of hope
step out on the road
how much weight? how much?
then it’s how long? and how far?
and how many times oh, before it’s too late?

calling all angels calling all angels
walk me through this one
don’t leave me alone
calling all angels calling all angels
we’re tryin’ and we’re hopin’
but we’re not sure how…

ah, and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
why it’s ah, it’s almost as
if you could only crack the code
then you’d finally understand what this all means

ah, but if you could…do you think you would
trade in all, all the pain and suffering?
ah, but then you’d miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving

calling all angels calling all angels
walk me through this one
don’t leave me alone
calling all angels calling all angels
we’re tryin’ and we’re hopin’
but we’re not sure…

calling all angels calling all angels
walk me through this one
don’t leave me alone
calling all angels calling all angels
we’re tryin’ we’re hopin’
we’re hurtin’ we’re lovin’
we’re cryin’ we’re callin’
cause we’re not sure how this goes

IOTD …. “Image of the Day”, #32!!

~~October 3, 2014~~

This 144 year old Wisteria in Japan looks like pink stars.

…. and the pink continues!

A dear blogger friend taught me about this concept.

You can find Michelle here:

IOTD is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”

National Elephant Appreciation Day …. every September 22!!

~~September 22, 2014~~

Since 1996, Americans have celebrated National Elephant Appreciation Day every Sept. 22.

For all those who will join together on September 22nd to honoring the largest land animal in world.
“As it appears in the Facebook page “National Elephant Appreciation Day

Wayne Hepburn, the founder of Mission Media Inc., created in 1996, received a paperweight of elephants on parade from his daughter as a gift. He became fascinated by them. He amassed a huge collections of elephant books and paraphernalia. His fascination and love of elephants, led to the creation of this day so you and I can stop and enjoy this huge, lumbering beast.
