When we moved to Florida in 1999, we first lived in Jacksonville. As we got settled and accustomed to the city, we started venturing out. We we looking for a spiritual place where we could connect to Spirit and Source again.

Both of us had become distant to the church teachings that we had grown up with. We were searching. There was “something” calling us.

I’m a strong believer in synchronicity. I also believe without doubt that people come into our lives because it’s meant to be. They come into our lives to teach us, to leave a mark and to make us better.

We found The Cosmic Church of Truth and became active participants in their activities.

After our move to Central Florida, we stayed in touch with Mary and Jimmy.

The blessed Angelika and Connor.

They came to our reception.

Tomorrow we are headed to Jacksonville because Mary and Jimmy, ordained ministers, will perform a ceremony where we will be married in this church.

This is a very special occasion for us.

One that is difficult to put in words.

We will be married in the Church on May 17, 2015!!!

Marriage Equality …. Slovenia!!

Slovenia became the first Central European country to pass marriage equality

On March 3, HRC commended the government of Slovenia for passing legislation that will make it the 21st nation to grant full marriage rights to all of its citizens.

“We commend the elected representatives of Slovenia for passing such historic legislation ensuring the nation’s LGBT citizens receive the rights they deserve, and we congratulate the LGBT activists and advocates who helped make this momentous day possible,”

said Ty Cobb, Director of HRC Global.

Slovenia’s national parliament approved the bill by a vote of 51 to 28. The bill will be sent to President Borut Pahor to sign into law.

Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark,France, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Uruguay, as well as England and Wales in the United Kingdom, have marriage equality laws that have gone into effect. In addition, Finland is set to extend full marriage rights to their LGBT citizens in the coming year.

The situation for LGBT people around the world varies widely, as some countries embrace equality, while in others, LGBT people continue to suffer from discrimination, persecution and violence.

Same-sex conduct is criminalized in 76 countries
In 10 countries same-sex conduct is punishable by death
So-called anti-LGBT “propaganda” laws inhibit LGBT advocacy in three countries
Same-sex marriage licenses are issued nationwide in 21 countries
In 2014 there were over 200 documented reports of transgender people murdered in 28 countries.

There continue to be countless undocumented cases of violence against transgender people throughout the world.

Bigot of the Month …. Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore!!

Disclaimer …. I’m not promoting donations of any kind. I use this graphic because if explicitly says what this “man of the law” is promoting in the state of Alabama.

I few days ago I posted about the fact that marriage equality was a go in Alabama. A very dear friend mentioned something about Roy Moore … I ask who he was. Now I know. I’m sure glad I don’t live in that state. 

Blatantly ignoring the law — that’s what Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is doing. He’s not only refusing to honor same-sex marriages in Alabama, he’s ignoring the law and going on national television to encourage others to do the same.

We need to show this officer of the law that there is a resounding, overwhelming support for marriage equality.

Freedom to Marry launches video celebrating Alabama marriages

Today, Freedom to Marry launched a new video celebrating the week marriages between same-sex couples began in Alabama. The video depicts the joy that same-sex couples and their families experienced when the stay on a previous ruling in Alabama was lifted and same-sex couples were able to get married.

The stay was lifted on Monday, February 9. Despite attempts to delay the freedom to marry coming to the state by Alabama Chief Justive Roy Moore, a federal judge issued an injuction on Thursday ordering the county of Mobile to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, signalling to the rest of the counties in Alabama that the state is ready for marriage.

The counties that are issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couple is growing, bringing the number of counties issuing licenses to same-sex couples up to over half of the counties in Alabama — and 75% of the population of Alabama.

Same-Sex Marriages Proceed in Alabama as State Judge’s Order Is Defied

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Amid conflicting signals from federal courts and the chief justice of Alabama’s Supreme Court, some Alabama counties began granting marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Monday, February 9, in a legal showdown with echoes of the battles over desegregation in the 1960’s.

In major county seats like Birmingham, Montgomery and Huntsville, gay couples lined up outside courthouses as they opened, and emerged smiling, licenses in hand, after being wed by clerks or by the judges themselves.

At the Jefferson County Courthouse here, Judge Michael G. Graffeo of Circuit Court officiated, at times tearfully, at the civil wedding of Dinah McCaryer and Olanda Smith, the first to emerge from the crowd of same-sex couples who lined up Monday morning. “I now pronounce Olanda and Dinah are married spouses, entitled to all rights and privileges, as well as all responsibilities, afforded and placed upon them by the State of Alabama,” Judge Graffeo said.

It’s Official: The Supreme Court will review the freedom to marry in 2015

Today, January 16, the United States Supreme Court announced that this year, they will hear arguments in a case on the question of whether same-sex couples should have the freedom to marry and if anti-marriage laws nationwide should be struck down as unconstitutional. The Court granted review of an out-of-step ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, which ruled in November against the freedom to marry in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. In each of these cases, federal judges had ruled in favor of the freedom to marry for all, and the 6th Circuit reversed each decision.

The Court also set a briefing schedule in the cases, with the plaintiffs’ opening brief due February 27, the states’ response briefs due March 27, and final reply briefs April 17. That likely puts an oral argument in the case on track for late April, with a decision expected by late June 2015.

SCOTUS Blog has reported the argument will likely be April 29.

The Court Rules Definitively on Gay Marriage

Gay marriage is now legal in 36 states and the District of Columbia, but what happens in the remaining states will depend on how the court rules. Given the momentum surrounding the issue of it’s hard for many analysts to see the session ending without the justices affirming that gay couples have the right to marry.

If they do, it would play right into the strategy of Freedom to Marry, the national campaign for marriage equality, which has been working to build pressure around the issue so the Court feels obligated to act.

This poem was written by a very special friend from Holland. Many of you know her. It’s “Just Patty“. In the time that I have been blogging, Patty has become an integral part of my life. We stay in touch frequently and interact in many way. She has become my “Lil Sister” and I have become her “Big Sister”.

Yesterday, she wrote a poem for MJ and me as a present for our special day.

Dear Patty, I have no words that can express the feelings in my heart when I saw this poem dedicated to us. Just know that it touched us deeply and made an impact in our day. This is priceless and will be a part of us forever.

Orange County Tax Collector will issue licenses and ID’s to married same-sex couples

With a recent ruling by a federal Judge declaring the Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional, County Clerk of Courts will begin issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples when the ban is lifted next week.

Newly married couples in Orange County will also be able to update their driver’s licenses and ID’s, after Tax Collector Scott Randolph announced this morning, his office will accept same sex marriage certificates from Florida and other states for couples with name changes.

“This was just another example of the many discriminatory policies same sex couples faced by the unconstitutional ban on same sex marriage in Florida,” said Randolph. “We will continue to review all aspects of our office to ensure that any and all inequities are wiped out — from driver licenses to auto title transfers and internal employee benefits.”
