Donald Trump — the post-truth 2016 candidate

We’ve been around the political block long enough to know that almost all presidential candidates exaggerate, dissemble, take statements out of context and, yes, lie.

But from the start of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign (remember Mexican rapists?), he has taken this to a level we haven’t seen before in American politics.

Consider just these two examples from the weekend.

First, Trump said on Saturday in Alabama:

“I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering.”

In fact, as the New York Times writes, “No news reports exist of people cheering in the streets, and both police officials and the mayor of Jersey City have said that it did not happen. An Internet rumor about people cheering in the streets, which said it was in Paterson, not Jersey City, has been denied numerous times by city and police officials.” But when ABC pressed Trump on his statement, he stood his ground.

“It did happen. I saw it … It was on television. I saw it.”

Second, Trump retweeted a graphic claiming — falsely — that African Americans are responsible for the killing of most blacks and whites in America. “That is not true, the Washington Post notes. “According to data from the FBI, most whites are killed by whites, as most blacks are killed by blacks.

There’s an obvious reason for that: Most people are killed by someone they know.”

I do not get it. I simply don’t. It’s not even a matter of which political party anyone is affiliated with or which beliefs anyone holds. I grew up in Puerto Rico, a colony of the United States but never the less “US land”. I was brought up thinking how great the US was …. as a country, as a leader, as an example to the world.

I cannot believe what I’m seeing and hearing now.

Any human with decreased number of brain cells can get what this “person” is doing and saying. There are no limits to his “statements”, nothing is off limits. He’s raised the “idiocy bar” so high that the other presidential hopefuls have no other option but to go along or even come back with more asinine statements. If they don’t, they will be left in his dust.

It’s true … this man isn’t an embarassment of this country. He’s an indictment of it.

I pity the United States of America.

(And I am an American citizen)

Every Tuesday, after school or work or what ever it is you do, you and a bunch of bros/hos go to taco bell, Tijuana flats, or any other shitty local taco restaurant that might be in your city.

Taco eating contests are encouraged.

Any amount of tacos can be consumed, from 1 to (current record) 23.

Taco Tuesdays have recently been improved with the recent addition of Tosh.O

I have been on a “Donald Trump-Mexico” kick for a few days.

You may wonder why.

I’m Puerto Rican not Mexican.

I am a Latina.

We may have our differences and our arguments but when the line is drawn, we are all LATINOS.

We are family and we stick together. No one messes with our families

This is what has been happening.

Mr. Trump has insulted and continues to insult, to this day, the largest minority in this country. It obvious that he has no idea that he has stirred quite the “hornets’ nest”

The singer was NOT happy with Donald Trump’s insulting comments about immigration, and she made it known with a new song, ‘We Are Mexico.’

What a powerful message!

Becky G, 18, had a lot to say, and she did it the way she knew best — by singing it loud, and singing it proud! Her new song, “We Are Mexico,” is a profound message to Donald Trump, 69, who made extremely racist comments about Mexican immigrants during his speech announcing his presidential candidacy on June 16.

What a brave and wonderful thing to do!

If it wasn’t clear that the song was aimed at Donald, Becky spelled it out clearly in the video’s description on YouTube when it was published on June 26: “This is for you Donald Trump.” All bets are off, Donald! The song is a beautiful ode to life as a Mexican-American. She describes working hard and working late, and a strong connection to family and friends — a stark contrast to Donald’s highly derogatory comments.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best … They’re sending people who have lots of problems,” Donald said. “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.”

“I’m just here to let you know: If you don’ know, now you know. We are Mexico. It don’t matter where we go. Viva Mexico,” Becky sings triumphantly in response.

It’s a powerful song that puts Donald in his place and truly makes him look small for his horrible insults. Becky isn’t letting his words bring her down, and she’s letting others know that they shouldn’t either!

Donald should be a little worried, too.

He better not make Becky mad anymore, because this version of the song is only 1:20 long and she’s packed a serious punch. Just think of what she could pack in a full-length song!

NBC fires Donald Trump over ‘derogatory statements’ about immigrants

NBC announced Monday that the network was cutting ties with Donald Trump over the Republican presidential candidate’s recent statements about Mexican immigrants.

“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump,” the network said in a statement.

The decision effectively cancels the annual airings of the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants, which are co-owned by Trump and NBC. The statement also said Trump won’t appear as the host in the reality show “The Apprentice” this fall, a choice made by Trump to allow more time to focus on his presidential run.

And although Trump is the producer of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” NBC said the show will continue without its mainstay host.

NBC’s announcement comes after a Change.org petition of more than 200,000 signatures asked the network to fire the mogul over a string of comments that have portrayed Mexican immigrants, among other things, as “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people” at his inaugural campaign speech.

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States and in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). Mexican Americans also often see the day as a source of pride; one way they can honor their ethnicity is to celebrate this day.

The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken to be Mexico’s Independence Day — the most important national holiday in Mexico — which is celebrated on September 16.

“Margaritaville” is a 1977 song by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett from the album Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. This song was written about a drink Buffett discovered at Lung’s Cocina del Sur restaurant on Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas, and the first huge surge of tourists who descended on Key West, Florida around that time.

He wrote most of the song that night at a friend’s house in Austin, and finished it while spending time in Key West. In the United States “Margaritaville” reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and went to number one on the Easy Listening chart, also peaking at #13 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
