OPEN LETTER TO WORLD LEADERS

2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 21 or CMP 11 is being held in Le Bourget, Paris, from November 30 to December 11.

It is the 21st yearly session of the Conference of the Parties to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 11th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The conference objective is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, from all the nations of the world.

2498 academics from 75 countries signed this Open Letter calling for world leaders meeting in Paris to do what is necessary to prevent catastrophic climate change.

Prominent signatories include Noam Chomsky, Naomi Oreskes, Kwame Anthony Appiah, Michael E. Mann, Ursula Oswald Spring, Bill McKibben, David Suzuki, and Peter Singer.

Some issues are of such ethical magnitude that being on the correct side of history becomes a signifier of moral character for generations to come. Global warming is such an issue.

Indigenous peoples and the developing world are least responsible for climate change, least able to adapt to it, and most vulnerable to its impacts. As the United Nations Climate Conference in Paris approaches, the leaders of the industrialized world shoulder a grave responsibility for the consequences of our current and past carbon emissions.

Yet it looks unlikely that the international community will mandate even the greenhouse gas reductions necessary to give us a two thirds chance of limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. At the moment, even if countries meet their current non-binding pledges to reduce carbon emissions, we will still be on course to reach 3 degrees Celsius by the end of this century.

This is profoundly shocking, given that any sacrifice involved in making those reductions is far overshadowed by the catastrophes we are likely to face if we do not: more extinctions of species and loss of ecosystems; increasing vulnerability to storm surges; more heatwaves; more intense precipitation; more climate related deaths and disease; more climate refugees; slower poverty reduction; less food security; and more conflicts worsened by these factors.

Given such high stakes, our leaders ought to be mustering planet-wide mobilization, at all societal levels, to limit global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Around the world, people from all walks of life are standing together to demand a strong climate agreement in Paris and a healthy future for the planet. When the world speaks with one voice, our leaders have to listen.

So we’ve put together this Open Letter with one very clear message: DEAR WORLD LEADERS: TAKE CLIMATE ACTION NOW.

People from around the world are affected by climate change today – right now. And they’re calling out to world leaders to demand real action this year at the UN climate talks in Paris.

We ALL are ONE!!

I AM HOMESICK

I know this feeling so well

It follows me everywhere.

My soul is like a plant

Needing to be cared.

Water and sunlight required

To make it grow and soar.

My heart was full sometime

Or so I thought it was

But it seems no more.

Can’t tell when it  wasn’t

But that has got to change.

I am looking for that place

It’s proving to be elusive.

I need a full heart

To be a fully aware

That my soul

Has a pair.

Give it away and it will come back

‘That what I want, basically, what I really want, is what you want. And I don’t know what you want. Surprise me’.

But that’s the kinship between “I” and “thou”. So when I ask, I go right down to the question, which we started with: “What do I want?”

The answer is “I don’t know”.

When Bodhidharma was asked, “Who are you?” which is another form of the same question, he said “I don’t know”. Planting flowers to which the butterflies come, Bodhidharma says “I know not”. I don’t know what I want.

And when you don’t know what you want, you reach the state of desirelessness. When you “really” don’t know … you see, there’s a beginning stage of not knowing, and there’s an ending stage of not knowing.

In the beginning stage, you don’t know what you want because you haven’t thought about it, or you’ve only thought superficially.

Then when somebody forces you to think about it and go through it, you say, “Yeah, I think I’d like this, I think I’d like that, I think I’d like the other”. That’s the middle stage.

Then you get beyond that, and say “Is that what I really want?” In the end you say, “No, I don’t think that’s it … I might be satisfied with it for a while, and I wouldn’t turn my nose up at it, but it’s not really what I want”.

Why don’t you really know what you want? Two reasons, that you don’t really know what you want.

Number one: You have it.

Number two: You don’t know yourself.

Because you never can. The godhead is never the object of its own knowledge, just as a knife doesn’t cut itself, fire doesn’t burn itself, life doesn’t illumine itself. It’s always an endless mystery to itself. “I don’t know”.

And this “I don’t know”, uttered in the infinite interior of the spirit, this “I don’t know”, is the same thing as “I love”, “I let go”, “I don’t try to force or control”. It’s the same thing as humility.

And so the Upanishads say, “If you think that you understand Brahman, you do not understand. You have yet to be instructed further. If you know that you do not understand, then you truly understand, for the Brahman is unknown to those who know it, and known to those who know it not’.

And the principle is that any time you, as it were, voluntarily let up control, in other words, cease to cling to yourself, you have an access to power. Because you’re wasting energy all the time in self-defense, trying to manage things, trying to force things to conform to your will.

The moment you stop doing that, that wasted energy is available. And therefore you are, in that sense, having that energy available, you are one with the divine principle. You have the energy! When you’re trying, however, to act as if you are god, that is to say, you don’t trust anybody and you’re the dictator and you have to keep everybody in line, you lose the divine energy, because what you’re doing is simply defending yourself.

So then the principle is: the more you give it away, the more it comes back.
Now you say, ‘I don’t have the courage to give it away. I’m afraid’.

And you can only overcome that by realizing, you better give it away, because there’s no way of holding on to it. The meaning of the fact that everything is dissolving constantly, that we’re all falling apart, we’re all in the process of constant death, and that –
‘The Worldly Hope men set their Hearts upon/Turns Ashes – or it prospers; and/Like Snow upon the Desert’s dusty Face/Lighting a little Hour or two – is gone all that Omar Khayyam jazz.

You know, ‘The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, the great globe itself, I, all which it inherit — shall dissolve, and like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind.’   …

All falling apart. Everything is. That’s the great assistance to you. That fact that everything is in decay is your helper. That is allowing you that you don’t have to let go, because there’s nothing to hold on to.

It’s achieved for you, in other words, by the process of nature. So once you see that you just don’t have a prayer, and it’s all washed up, and that you will vanish and “leave not a rack behind”, and you really get with that, suddenly you find that you have the power, this enormous access of energy.

But it’s not power that came to you because you grabbed it; it came in entirely the opposite way. The power that comes to you in that opposite way is power with which you can be trusted.’

To start the day ….. “The Little Match Girl”!!

Something to think about …. thankful for all we have

The short begins with the young girl trying to sell matches on the snowy streets of Russia. Unfortunately, no one will buy them from her, not even a policeman who helps her down from a lamp post. After a day without success, the young girl curls up in a corner with her box of matches in her lap. As the cold winds becomes stronger, she is forced to use one of her matches to keep warm.

In her final vision, she sees a Christmas tree in the other room, decorated with presents, ornaments, and candles. Her grandmother picks her up, and she gets to light every candle with her matchstick. As the match goes out, the scene goes black, as the girl had died during the cold night. However, the spirit of her grandmother appears to the match girl, whose spirit is joyous to see her. The grandmother picks up the match girl’s spirit as she carries her into the afterlife.

Santa claus is coming to town

A touching story is adapted from the work of The Little Match Girl by Danish writer Andersen. This is a Christmas story for children most every Christmas. Take away all tears when watching the story.

Factor between cold night, she had to go across the street to sell the match, but no one paid attention to me, they are busy busy to return to pick up the family Christmas party. She wore a thin virtual and cold shiver every time., Socks you wear wrap carriage was gone when he chased the boy teasing. The photo of her brother was flying away, blessed with pitiful dogs picked up in the same boat and gives her, the dog is shivering cold episodes. She has given final piece of cake for dogs lovely and kind. The dog continued to follow her wandering the streets, going through the streets and see the cake in the shop, and have fun under the sun power to throw down the snow, but it quickly interrupted lost by the insensitivity of the adults.

She has not sold any matches, while street no one, she said with a dog wandering poor and could not return home, including the father drunk and ready to beat me. Snow fell, thicker, her cold, hungry and exhausted so I sat down one corner. The dog now wants to say something to her and quietly walked away. That left her alone, each cold wind hissed and deserted, she wiped the first match for the bitter cold to heat, suddenly appeared one scene, she was sitting in front of a large fireplace and 1 referring warm, cheerful flame ever danced before, suddenly the match went out, and she returned to reality, it is only a fantasy. She wiped my 2nd match a dining table out with a lot of delicious food, including dog dancing are delighted to sit at my table with her. 2nd match went out, she returned to reality, perhaps because too hungry. She struck a match and this is the 3rd person she loves her out, she hugged her grandmother, she did not want the match went out to turn the match swipe left to cling to this image she wanted to be with her flight to heaven.

The match went out, but she always falls asleep, her soul flew to heaven with her grandmother. In it you will not be cold, hungry and lonely. The final image that people see a strong emotion, such as the dog’s mouth shut and raced pie in order to save her life, the dog ran to connect slipping on snow pain. The cry of the dog at the end of the story haunts the viewer and makes the viewer sympathize place
