AMONG THE MANY ASININE, INACCURATE STATEMENTS, PLAIN LIES

THIS IS JUST ONE AMONG THE MANY

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has been characteristically unapologeticabout his claim that “thousands and thousands” of New Jersey residents cheered as the World Trade Center fell on Sept. 11, 2001, even though contemporaneous news reports don’t support it.

And his insistence on that recollection, which has no basis in fact, shows just how expert he is at roping together conspiracy theories, urban legends, and rumors that lurk on the fringes of the Internet and bringing them into the mainstream.

Rumors of groups of people celebrating the attacks in “tailgate-style parties” popped up in national publications like The Washington Post and Associated Press, but were never confirmed as true. A highly publicized video of Muslims cheering and flashing victory signs on the day of the attack was shot in the Israeli-occupied West Bank of Palestine, not in the Garden State. A video of American Muslims celebrating the terrorist attack doesn’t appear to exist and none of the unconfirmed reports of such an incident comes anywhere near the scale that Trump describes.

I’ve been reading about these comments since this weekend. I just finished watching Rachel Maddow’s TV show for today, November 23. I would recommend that you look for the video on this particular topic.

I cannot believe that this is happening in this country. I cannot believe that no one is standing up to this man. There are those who cheer and egg him on. There are those who even believe him.

Again, I pity the USA.

Trump’s outrageous claim that ‘thousands’ of New Jersey Muslims celebrated the 9/11 attacks

Glenn Kessler

“Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.”

THE FACTS

This is a bit like writing about the hole in the doughnut — how can you write about nothing?

Trump says that he saw this with his own eyes on television and that it was well covered. But an extensive examination of news clips from that period turns up nothing. There were some reports of celebrations overseas, in Muslim countries, but nothing that we can find involving the Arab populations of New Jersey except for unconfirmed reports. This claim has never been authenticated.

As the Newark Star-Ledger put it in an article on Sept. 18, 2001, “rumors of rooftop celebrations of the attack by Muslims here proved unfounded.”

Words have power & consequences …. “Be careful with your Choice of Words”!!

~~June 27, 2015~~

The Christian right wing has exploded in fury over the Supreme Court’s decision to recognize gay marriage, eliciting some amusingly over-dramatic and apocalyptic statements from Republicans and evangelicals across the country. Ted Cruz called it the “darkest day in our nation’s history.” Pastor Bryan Fisher had the poor taste to compare it to “9/11, Pearl Harbor, and slavery.” But one outspoken cleric is being forced to eat his words, in a hilarious fashion.

Pastor Rick Scarborough of Pearland, Texas said in a conference call with other anti-gay zealots that “We are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and if necessary we will burn” when it comes to opposing the right of Americans to marry and love who they see fit, free from the judgement of others.

After the ruling on Friday, social media and the Internet began calling for him to make good on his threat to burn himself.

NOW HE’S CHANGED HIS TUNE

Texas pastor denies plan to set self on fire if gay marriage was legalized, was only quoting a song

Texas pastor who thundered that he would “Burn, if necessary” to stop the Supreme Court from legalizing gay marriage, claims he was only quoting from an old spiritual and that he has no intention on setting himself on fire, reports the Advocate.

In — literally — a ‘fire and brimstone‘ proclamation, Pastor Rick Scarborough said he and his fellow pastors should band together to halt the growing threat of same sex marriage, saying

“We are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and if necessary, we will burn.”

Twenty-four hours after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same sex marriage, Scarborough explained that he wasn’t really going to set himself on fire — he was just using the words of a Christian spiritual to rally the troops.

“I made that comment to paraphrase a spiritual song, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in which the three were given a choice — to bow to the image of Nebucahdnezzar or burn in a furnace,” Scarborough explained .”

‘We will burn’ means that we will accept any sanction from the government for resisting Friday’s (June 26) Supreme Court decision.

We do not support any violence or physical harm.”

DISCLAIMER

I’m not advocating for anyone to harm themselves or anyone to cause harms to others.

I don’t think it’s correct either to wish harm on any person. It’s a different story when someone proclaims that they would harm themselves like Pastor Pastor Rick Scarborough of Pearland, Texas did.

In my humble opinion, in spite of the excuses he declareded after marriage equality became the “law of the land”, he presented a typical attitude of a right wing, extremely conservative Christian whose beliefs run their lives in a very pragmatic way.

Surely he didn’t intend to “set himself on fire”.

Yet, all words have power and consequences.

Since he declared such a definite and final action, now he needs to face the consequences of his “choice of words”.

Now he’s facing ridicule. He’s shown a side of himself that is very easy to make fun of.

His credibility is zero now … but will any of the members of his flock hold him accountable?

I don’t think so.

There’s always an excuse.

Good way of getting out of the predicament you put yourself into, Sir.

Reminds me of “liar, liar, pants on fire”.

My mantra: live and let live.
