‘My life has been changed’

She’s been the favorite to win since the first week of the competition , and now Bindi Irwin is the official dancing queen of “Dancing With the Stars.”

“Oh, my God! We won!” she exclaimed Tuesday night after beating out her biggest dance-floor rival, Nick Carter.

KARMA AT WORK

This issue has been all over social media and the blogosphere. The results show the power of people when joined in a common effort. The lady stated her opinion, not expecting the backlash. She issued an apology which wasn’t accepted. She resigned her post.

Words do have consequences!

“During the annual presidential pardoning of a turkey on Thanksgiving, Sasha and Malia Obama acted like typical teenagers during the ceremony in a way that suggested they were indifferent to the occasion. Among the signs were arm folding and eye rolling, and the media had fun playing and commenting on the footage. Again, most sane people had no problem with the girls’ behavior, because we all know what’s like to be a teenager who is embarrassed around their parents, even if it is for no particular reason.”

Life is so precious. It’s a wonder that we ALL start the same way. At this moment there are no differences separating us.

The progress made as we become a human being is  incredible. The process is the same for all.

We need to value every life because we all come from the same Source. We all are unique yet the same.

We are all connected.

There is a majestic quality
In everyone for all to see.
Some keep it hidden, some never realize

The magnificence they hold in others’ eyes.

Ah, yes, life itself is the gift.

Though the memory, itself, Time doth sift.
And some might think the reverence gone

As those we love one by one pass on.

But the intricacies Fate doth weave-

In commemoration for all who grieve.
Are the blessings given to rebirth
From souls no-longer of this earth.

At first notice I came undone,

My father staring at me through my son.
But, now, in joy I ascertain
Through him, my father lives again.

I look to heavens’ resounding grace

Renewed appreciation of life and my place.
Knowing as each newborn child opens their eyes
The miracle continues, no one really dies.

And then there are things that fill your heart with inexplicable hope

“The Story Behind This Powerful Photo of a Black Boy Hugging a White Cop at a Ferguson Demonstration”

Amidst the many photos of hate, anger, sadness and sometimes outright destruction that have flooded the media since a grand jury decided not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, sparking riots and protests across the US, there are glimmers of hope and humanity.

One such glimmer was captured by Oregon-based freelance photographer Jonny Nguyen at a Ferguson demonstration in Portland earlier this week.

The photo shows 12-year-old Devonte Hart, his eyes welling with tears as he hugs Portland Police Sgt. Bret Barnum, and the story behind it was reported first by The Oregonian in an article published earlier today.

Apparently Hart — whose full profile is a truly inspirational read — was at the demonstration holding a sign that said “free hugs” when Barnum noticed him with tears in his eyes. He motioned the young man over and the two began talking.

After they were done, Barnum pointed to the sign and asked “Do I get one of those?” A question Hart answered with a tearful hug. Fortunately for those of us who need to have our faith in humanity restored on occasion, Nguyen was there with his camera.

Alex Boye, mom bloggers celebrate Mother’s Day with Katy Perry ‘Roar‘ cover

In honor of Mother’s Day 2014, singer Alex Boye paid tribute to moms around the world with his Africanized cover of Katy Perry’s “Roar.”

In Boye’s new video, he collaborated with several mom bloggers, including Sistas in Zion — two women who blog about their Mormon faith and who were featured in a Deseret News article in August 2013.

Boye, also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently gave a concert at a blogging conference in Utah, where one of the bloggers asked him to do a video with them.

Boye said he thought that was a good idea, and he wanted to make a video to the song “Roar.”

“I told them that women reminded me of swans,” Boye said. “I told them to picture the way a swan floats effortlessly and gracefully. Perfectly poised on a crystal clear pond, where hardly a ripple can be seen. But what we don’t see underneath the water are tiny little feet flapping at turbo speed like twin turbine engines!”

With the way most of us live our lives these days — giving zero f*cks — we often forget that there are young ones around watching.

I’m not saying that everyone should be a perfect role model in life, but if you’re responsible for a child, then you should act like an adult and strive to set a good example.

While our kids will likely end up just like us, there’s no reason you should be smoking, drinking or fighting in front of them.

This quick, 60 second PSA makes all of us think about our immoral behavior and puts into perspective what we’re really doing. Turn down for what? Turn down for the children.

NAPCAN’s latest campaign for a Child Friendly Australia

NAPCAN, Australia’s National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, launched a thought-provoking television/cinema campaign this year with “Children See, Children Do”. The 90 second spot features children following adults, mimicking their habits. At first the pattern appears to be innocuous, talking on a mobile phone while walking through a city square, making a call on a public telephone, waiting behind the yellow line in a railway station. The behavior becomes more insidious with a girl copying a woman’s smoking habits on an escalator. A boy follows as a grown man carelessly knocks a struggling mother’s bag off her shoulder. We see examples of litter, drunken behaviour, road rage, racism and cruelty to animals. A woman yells at her baby, accompanied by her older daughter. A man is joined by his son as he verbally and physically abuses his wife.
